oh fuuuuuuck nostalgia attaaaaaaaaaaaack
This looks pretty cool, might try it out for nostalgic moments. EDIT: Ninja'd!
Wait, the only real thing I noticed that was different was the 9mm pistol... What else is there? :v:
Aside from using the HD textures, what's different?
Aside from using the HD textures, what's different?

Mod Features: • Different Maps - The map alterations range from minor geometry fixes and lighting adjustments to entirely revamped areas. Several locations have been redesigned with performance and gameplay in mind while entirely new rooms have been added in some places to introduce another obstacle or puzzle to overcome. One entire level was even cut! Can you determine the missing map? • Different Models - The Dreamcast version is host to a number of exclusive models not seen in any other version of Half-Life, including the High Definition pack and the PlayStation 2 port. Can you find the hidden VMU and Half-Life Dreamcast disc? • Revamped Menu - Included is a new splash screen, menu background, menu color scheme, and menu sounds to closely emulate the Dreamcast's fancy interface. • High quality soundtrack - Emulates the CD quality music used in the console version, overriding the default 48kbps mp3s on Steam. • Tweaked Difficulty - To accommodate the difficulty of playing with a controller, Gearbox suitably rebalanced the monster spawns as well as enemy health and damage values. • Password Notifications - Although the password system itself cannot be ported, all password messages that appear in normal gameplay have been brought over. • The Little Differences - Too small to be noted in a bullet point, but true Half-life fans should be able to spot these in a heartbeat when they see (or hear!) them. i like half life
This is pretty neat, I didn't even know this console version existed.
oh fuuuuuuck nostalgia attaaaaaaaaaaaack
Mind explaining how you can have a nostalgia attack from something that apparently was never released? :v:
Mind explaining how you can have a nostalgia attack from something that apparently was never released? :v:
There were torrents of the leaked copy of the game.
[editline]18th January 2012[/editline]
There were torrents of the leaked copy of the game.
Not saying anything. but half life 1 in general makes me have a nostalgia attack.
Oh so it's the same as the PS2 version. Which is also the same as regular pc half life with the high definition mod that came with blue shift
Nothing for me beats Half-Life with the HD texture/model pack from Blue Shift, safe for the batshit insane PS2 version of the game with a sprint button and local multiplayer.
oh no wait it's actually worse graphically than the ps2 version and the pc version whats the point then?
oh no wait it's actually worse graphically than the ps2 version and the pc version whats the point then?
A frail excuse to play Half-Life again?
it's a great game you don't need an excuse to play it again but i'd much rather play the pc version as this version has no advantages over it and looks worse in many places. i mean it's nice to see previously unreleased content finally surface and all but when it's inferior, i don't see the point
i thought the dreamcast port was unfinished

I don't need much more reason than "I have trained my mind to forget 70% of the game" to play it again and again and again. :v:
Strange idea, but interesting I guess. Is there a specific list of differences?
Strange idea, but interesting I guess. Is there a specific list of differences?

One entire level was even cut! Can you determine the missing map?
Do really you need any other reason to play this? Don't miss out on the chance to miss out!
Oh so it's the same as the PS2 version. Which is also the same as regular pc half life with the high definition mod that came with blue shift
The PlayStation 2 version of Half-Life is very far removed from the PC version. The PC's High Definition Pack pales in comparison to the vastly improved PS2 models and animations. Gearbox overhauled many of the levels and map textures, even going as far to add in an entirely new introduction to the game's Hazard Course with new voice lines recorded specifically for the addition. The PS2 port also boasts new AI behavior, such as human grunts who can intelligently roll away from grenade threats (rather than just ducking in cover next to them) or even throw or kick live grenades back at the player.
oh no wait it's actually worse graphically than the ps2 version and the pc version whats the point then?
The Dreamcast version is different from the PC version, either with or without the High Definition Pack installed, and the PS2 version in terms of models, maps, and even gameplay due to the highly tweaked difficulty. Put simply, unless you've gone to the trouble to play the leaked port on an actual Dreamcast (it still can't be emulated as far as I know), you have not experienced Half-Life in quite this way before. You may still want to write off Half-Life: Dreamcast as another uneventful console port, but this was back during a time when ports weren't carbon copies of one another. This was back in the days when a console port of Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake 1 and 2, and even Half-Life would inevitably bring something new and exclusive to the table. They were the same great games (usually, unless it was a poor port) but with a unique twist that managed to throw surprises at you around every corner. As someone who has both a keen interest in these titles and the creation behind them, I found these console ports to be a fascinating look into game development and the design choices made by these developers to accommodate these games onto completely different platforms. The Dreamcast port of Half-Life is unique in that it was the one that nearly got away. I believe it's a crying shame that the virtually completed efforts of so many people would essentially go unseen forever due to the cancelled release. The leak was a pleasant surprise, but because of the circumstances behind it and its limited availability, it would still remain largely obscured even to Half-Life fans. I took it upon myself to personally bring as much of this nearly forgotten port to the PC not only to celebrate the accomplishments of the developers, but also to share and appreciate with the Valve (and maybe Gearbox) community a Half-Life artifact that was almost lost. In tl;dr terms, there's a historical significance behind this curiosity, however minor, that I felt was worth taking the time to share.
the PS2 port with the co-op would be fantastic.
the PS2 port with the co-op would be fantastic.
There is one, but i dont have the mod page.
the PS2 port with the co-op would be fantastic.
The co-op portion, known as Decay, of the PlayStation 2 port of Half-Life has already been ported: http://decay.half-lifecreations.com/ http://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-decay A port of the main singleplayer campaign (or even the deathmatch mode, for that matter) is unlikely to ever happen, unfortunately.
The Dreamcast version seems to have an entirely new protagonist. [IMG_THUMB]http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/20/19461/thumb_620x2000/13_models_player.jpg[/IMG_THUMB]

I tried the DC version on my friend's Dreamcast, it was buttfucked by two big problems: The controls (no fault of Gearbox, the DC had a stupid design choice of eliminating A WHOLE ANALOG STICK). The second problem was the load times. There were even more loading breaks, and they were a 1-3 minutes long, and really broke the gameplay. [editline]18th January 2012[/editline] Both will have been eliminated by this port obviously [editline]18th January 2012[/editline] the tram in the beginning keeps getting stuck at the part where it descends underground :v:
the tram in the beginning keeps getting stuck at the part where it descends underground :v:
This is apparently due to an issue with save games in your base Half-Life directory somehow conflicting with HL: DC, although I haven't been able to 100% confirm that. Nonetheless, please try the following and see if it addresses your problem: Go to your Half-Life save game directory ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\[SteamName]\half-life\valve\SAVE ) and either delete all the files you find there or temporarily move them to a different folder.
The Dreamcast release is fun if you have the Dreamcast keyboard. Then you can enter console commands.
The Dreamcast release is fun if you have the Dreamcast keyboard. Then you can enter console commands.
Load times still blow major balls. While the loading breaks are still there from the DC original here, at least they're about 1-3 seconds instead of 1-3 minutes
