What's with the guy recently? He's been getting quite a bit of coverage as of late
far cry 2 has been my favorite game in the series.
Every time I hear about far cry 2 I remember that gamasutra article and cry because the concept and ideas were so good but the game is the defining line of mediocre.
Far Cry 2 has its flaws but overall I thought it was great fun.
far cry 2 has been my favorite game in the series.
yeah even with the fucking terrible, repetitive enemy encounters, I still enjoyed it a lot more than FC3 which I practically forced myself to play through until I unlocked the wingsuit. It just did everything well except for the enemy encounters
I personally would love to see a fixed version of Far Cry 2.
I loved the MP and making race tracks and the eiffel tower and titanic. Mostly the race tracks though, who knew shitty African cars could do a loop-de-loop.
Far Cry 2 is one of the most polarizing games I know of. People either really, really like it or thought it was complete garbage. Everyone fucking loves the map editor though.
Far Cry 2 is one of those games that I try and play every now and then, only to give up an hour or two tops because some of the bad design choices really fuck up the entire experience. I kinda hope we'll get some redux version of the game or atleast some big mod that will change the shitty aspects of the game.
Far Cry 2 has its flaws but overall I thought it was great fun.
I've put an embarrassing amount of hours into that game.
The gameplay of FC2 was pretty weak and shit but fuck some of the features like weapon jamming and the map were excellent in my opinion
Far Cry 2 was really good at making you feel like you were truly in Third World Africa. AKA everything was horrible. [editline]16th November 2015[/editline] Jokes aside though I loved the music and visuals of the game, but the gameplay was sorta stale, and NPCs were meh.
Disable the AI and increase the FOV via trainers and suddenly Far Cry 2 becomes an amazing time waster where you just fuck around the world to find diamonds and cassette tapes. [editline]a[/editline] I do find it interesting how both Far Cry 2 and The Phantom Pain were criticized for having a mostly empty map with very few things to do in it, with repetitive side missions and annoying enemy outposts. Except the gameplay is outstanding in TPP and is just average in FC2.
I honestly love Far Cry 2, despite everything wrong with it. And there is a LOT wrong with it. I've found this sums up my feelings towards it pretty well:
It's crazy how much opinions have changed over this game. It seems like most everyone appreciates its good aspects now, but around '08-'10, it was the equivalent of hot garbage.

Whenever I think of Far Cry 2 I end up having really conflicted thoughts about it. Like how 80% of the game was either running or driving through a map that was far too big, far too repetitive and far too hostile (seriously there were like two places in the whole map where everyone wasn't trying to kill you, but if you looked at said people for too long THEY'D START TRYING TO KILL YOU), but how the rest of the time I spent with it involved sneaking through enemy camps, running through forests with a fuckton of fire (sometimes literal fire) coming my way and dropping mortars on enemy reinforcements. I suppose the sometimes fun gameplay managed to outweight the absurdly difficult, buggy-ass gameplay often enough for me to have enjoyed playing it. Not enough for me to even consider finishing it, or ever replaying it, but enough that I had fun whenever I wasn't shouting at my TV because I died after slipping off a fucking barrel.
I haven't played it since release but I remember thinking it was absolute shit. Gameplay and storytelling was awful. It had minor moments that were cool, like the village guards' dialogue towards you changing when they realise you're death incarnate. But overall it was just a huge slog to get through. Still don't know why I wasted my time.
Funnily enough, there was a mod created that fixed a few of the things, especially weapon damage.
What's with the guy recently? He's been getting quite a bit of coverage as of late
Because Clint Hocking literally left Ubisoft and joined Valve, then quit Valve less than a year after that, and hasn't done anything since. Which is unfortunate as the dude is talented. But I'm glad he's back at Ubi. Hopefully he has something to do with Far Cry: Primal.
I wonder how great Farcry 2 would have been if it just had a bit longer in the oven. I mean, the concepts of many of its features are quite good, it's just that most of them suck absolute balls in practice and haven't had their flaws ironed out. I never really understood people's beef with weapon jamming, though. If you got your guns from gun shops, it almost never happened unless you shot thousands of rounds, excluding some of the stronger things like the RPG and anti material rifle.
Aw fuck, ninja'd. Anyways I love Far Cry 2. Has its flaws, but with the unofficial patches from moddb, it turns the game into a less-frustrating ordeal. The subtle Heart of Darkness plot is damn well done.
The gameplay of FC2 was pretty weak and shit but fuck some of the features like weapon jamming and the map were excellent in my opinion
yes, like having your AK47 jam in the middle of a battle your AK47 [editline]17th November 2015[/editline] the health system was flawlessly good, and I loved the combat, but I never could get into it beyond... maybe a few hours max
I never had a gun jam on me. I also never had to pick up an enemy weapon. I don't know how they did it but those guns felt like they had weight. If you played you know what I mean. When you held a pistol you could feel how much it weighed in your hands

Also the guns sounds hot as hell, you could hear the actual clicks and clanks of metal inside the gun as well.
I could have forgiven the gameplay flaws if not for the utterly arbitrary ending. Fuck, why couldn't I just say "Fuck the refugees" and fly away with my buddies.
I loved far cry 2. They really did a good job bringing the environment to life. The breeze blowing through the grassy fields and trees, the storms, the wildlife, the flowing rivers, etc. I was impressed with it graphically for a game of its time too. I played through the whole game multiple times but never for the story. The freedom of choice, the immersion, the environment, and the gunplay were enough for me. I definitely recognize its shortcomings though and can see why it's not a game for everyone. [editline]17th November 2015[/editline] Oh and that feeling of walking through a town and shoving your gun in the face of a random passerby just to see the reactions of the people around you.

Besides they showed that by making it the gun that's condition deteriorated the slowest, while the AR-15 or whatever it was was the fastest. The way it was in the game wasn't perfect but I liked the fact that it was there.
