Is this coming soon or is it already here?
Edit:
Nvm, I'm an idiot, but it seems this isn't actually removing non-chrome store extensions or making it impossible to add them. All you have to do to add an extension from outside the chrome store is to drag and drop the file in your extensions window in settings.
Now can they stop people from buying out extensions and having them auto update into adware? Twice now I have had random ads showing up in the middle of websites because an extension I have used heavily turned into mindless adware in an update.
I hope youtube center will go onto the store then, as I can't use youtube without it. It improves the layout so much.
Chrome really isn't worth using without ALFA-CIPHER.
Good, as long as it's still possible to somehow manually override it. Otherwise a bit of a bummer.

No, that was how it worked already. Now you can't even do that

What the fuck? So now it's a walled garden?
It's disgusting if you ask me. The real issue is that the browser lets extsnsions silently install other extensions, when it should always bring up a confirmation box. Surely that's the only fix that's needed.
I'm still able to install extensions from outside of the chrome store like always. Seems like they haven't put out an update yet.
They could just be starting to enforce that caveat in their terms of use that says Google can remotely disable specific extensions, right?
No, this is what google themselves said:
From now on, to protect Windows users from this kind of attack, extensions can be installed only if they're hosted on the Chrome Web Store. With this change, extensions that were previously installed may be automatically disabled and cannot be re-enabled or re-installed until they're hosted in the Chrome Web Store.
The dev branch will probably never have this kind of limitation, so get that.

Grab tampermonkey and then just install the userscript version.
