Im getting in on the modelling scene now, im currently using a mix of 3DS Max and Sulptiris. But im wanting to get more professional software, i know of Zbrush and Mudbox.
So Facepunch, which one do you think is better? please give reasons :)
I personally prefer Mudbox as it's much easier to use and just as powerful as ZBrush and is easier to work between Max and Mudbox than is it Zbrush.
I use Mudbox with Maya, I find Mudbox mush easier than Zbrush. I'll go with Mudbox.
Why not just get both and you can decide?
Oh you wanted a reason...well, this lets you decide for one.

Because getting both would cost thousands.

Not if you know where to look...
Not that I just said that or anything..

For those that have voted Zbrush, please give a reason :)
Many people are more used to working with ZBrush and it's often easier to get help with it, but if you know what you're doing/are able to work out problems yourself, then you're better off with MudBox.
I also find that tablet responsiveness (If you're using one) is much faster in MudBox than in ZBrush for some reason.

Never thought about using a tablet.. Thanks for that :) I think Mudbox is sounding like the better option
Can't they both be downloaded with a 30 day unregistered trail period so you can test them both?
Come to think of it. I have access to mudbox for free and that legally. Autodesk Student program sure is great. Going to give mudbox a go. I just can't understand ZBrush.

I have a bandwidth cap, and i share it with my dad who is also a heavy user, so that's out the question

Telling your dad to chill out with the downloads for a month so you can find out which very pricey program better suites you shouldn't cause him any trouble.
I personally just screw around with 3d art so the simplicity of mudbox is nice.
nah that'l never work... Also, a friend is going to lend me a copy of Mudbox for a bit so Im sorted :D
I'd get mudbox if you're using it with MAX
I use zbrush, it has a function called goz which imports everything across to the program of your choice, Max/maya/whatever.
Plus I can no longer live without its uv unwrapping plugin
I prefer ZBrush.
It seems to sport a bigger community.
