Is the game worth it at this price?
Is the game worth it at this price?
Personally waiting for x-mas sales to hit 5$ or maybe even 2,50$, the game's not that big
Alternatively, buy a NES and play all the games this one references! I do love the Nerd, but I don't imagine this to be money well spent.
So is the hate on this game justified or is the FP bandwagon in effect?
So is the hate on this game justified or is the FP bandwagon in effect?
FP Bandwagon. Its pretty fun old school Side Scroller that will kick your ass.
So is the hate on this game justified or is the FP bandwagon in effect?
Well it has good review scores. Also, seeing this screen gave me a smile - so, I guess just jump in if you wanna.
So is the hate on this game justified or is the FP bandwagon in effect?
I'm thinking it's bandwagoning, I've played through the game and while I think the skull blocks were a stupid and cheap method of making the game harder, I still enjoyed playing through the game enough to do it once more after beating it.
I hope it has Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde references. Also I rewatched all AVGN episodes again, and that made try out all those shitty games by myself. I played Top Gun and, well, James was right. You can't land the plane.. unless you have the Power Glove.
I hope it has Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde references.
It does. Among some other good references.
It does. Among some other good references.
Then I definitely need to play it. Just have to wait for another sale, I'm short on 5 bucks right now.
References are best when they're not being shoved in your face every 2 seconds. This is just another generic "retro" platformer, but with the added joy of obnoxious references all the time! What's not to like?? (everything)
Have you played it? Edit: I just checked your list of games, I'm not seeing it there. Seems like you're just jumping the gun and snubbing the game immediately. This isn't /v/ man. I wouldn't call this game one of those shitty "retro" platformers, as the music and controls feel genuine. It's just their choice for difficulty feels wrong, they should have focused more on shooting enemies instead of dodging those instant kill blocks that're everywhere. Is it a great game? Fuck no. It's mediocre at best but I still enjoyed it for the humor in it. It's AVGN, it's not for everyone. It's not worth $15 bucks but if a fan of the Nerd can get it for around 5 to 7 bucks, then I'd say it's worth playing through, as you could do far worse.
In terms of retro "torture" platforming it doesn't seem to really offer anything new, so the major selling point is AVGN's face and humor, which to plenty of people are more of a downside than an asset.
So is the hate on this game justified or is the FP bandwagon in effect?
A mix of both, but mostly the former. Some of the ones who criticize it go a bit too far, and the ones who defend it are often blinded by their own fanboyism. It's not worth 15 dollars by a long shot. In my opinion, it's just another ∼8-bit∼ platformer that doesn't play any better than Megaman and has much worse level design. It's attempt at being difficult is "cute" at best. You know what else is difficult? Doom, but that game has great level design and a good difficulty progression. AVGN:A has levels that rival Megaman X6's in the frustating department, and fails to emulate the feel of any NES games. If you wanna try it out, just wait for Christmas, maybe then it'll be worth the price.
So is the hate on this game justified or is the FP bandwagon in effect?
Hate? Only thing I can see wrong here is the price
I don't see hate in posts but I see dumbs and disagrees everywhere
Honestly it's a really solid game that nails the classic feel. 15 dollars is way too expensive though, this sale price hits the mark pretty well imo
Gotta love that Old School difficulty. 3 lives, no continues. Games like that were such a fun experience.
The harder difficulty levels is actually what put me off from a third playthrough, as they seem super annoying. I have to admit it's a nice touch that the Nerd's Zapper changes color and becomes a Sega Master System light gun on Old School I think
It is super frustrating to see people trashing the game without playing it, because the game is actually super fun and the soundtrack is absolutely great. But nah, we all gotta brag about growing our first pubes on the facepunch dot com. This game isn't sophisticated enough for erudite thirteen year olds such as myself.
