Hm, that actually -is- interesting. I guess I'll take the survey if only to see how it all affects the game's direction
A few months ago I replayed the trilogy and I was kinda surprised of how much I got attached to the characters, the plot and the whole universe in general. I sincerely hope they do give their best to make ME4 a worthy successor.

Despite how much of a flop the finale was (and how glaring the dips in quality throughout the latter two games) I love the Mass Effect series. The universe created with ME1 is one of the bets ones created, and held a lot of a potential. The characters are really the only reason I considering Mass Effect 3 playable, as the general gameplay is nothing noteworthy. The characters are without exception what hold the series together. garrus #1 husbando
I think the only thing that saves Mass Effect for me is that is made by a different team. Still, there's the always present fear that it'll go Dragon Age's way, and the ending, plus how they handled the player's choices and the distancing from RPG core are not good indications.
I just pray it's back to the whole ragtag star trekking, pirate blasting and exploration aspect the first game had. you can't threaten to explode the galaxy twice
How cool would it be if someone (FromSoftware maybe?) made a futuristic sci-fi game with Dark Souls-style gameplay and mechanics. Mutherfuckin' plasma claymores n' shit.

Concerning Dota, my guess is that's what they intend for multiplayer, like a third-person shooter spin on the genre. And as for Dark Souls, presumably something along the lines of giving every piece of equipment its own little snippet of story? IDK, it's still just WMG at this point.
I really hope that they use the Dark Souls influence for worldbuilding, creating interest in mysteries.
Don't know about you lot, but ME3 on Hardcore or higher difficulty as an Adept or similar "space mage" class was a shitton of fun gameplay wise.
Calling it now: The survey is a ruse and the game is already being made as a MOBA where you can somehow interfere with another player's game. Only there is an option for semi-randomly generated playfields as well as static ones and you get "loot" after a match.

Everything but the ending felt right, and they even fixed that to some extent.
Anyone that says ME3 doesn't have the most solid and polished gameplay in the series is in horrible denial.
It wasn't the most original but yeah 3 generally had the best combat, hence why the MP was so fun even though it was just a horde mode.
Best skills too. Most fun to use, great combination potential, and best upgrade trees (as they actually make significant differences instead of boring ass linear upgrades) [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] Best weapon selection/customization too.
Anyone that says ME3 doesn't have the most solid and polished gameplay in the series is in horrible denial.
I thought 2 was better in every aspect tbh
Play 3 and then go back to 2 and tell me that. I thought the same thing until I did. 2 falls short in literally every way. Worse cover system, clunkier movement, less interesting enemies, fewer weapons, shitty weapon modification, insignificant armor stats, fewer skills, no power combo potential, and absolutely horrible upgrade trees. It's really awful. I legitimately cannot think of anything 2's gameplay did better.
At least 2's gameplay was miles better than 1's. I still have nightmares about that inventory.
ME2 felt too limited when they took away weapon drops. I liked getting loot; not upgrading things I already owned.
a mass effect game with dark souls combat would make me shit myself out of glee
I still hold that ME1 is the best in terms of combat because it actually played like an RPG, not a third person shooter with minor RPG mechanics. That and not going Soldier in the other 2 is almost not viable on the harder difficulties since every enemy has shields against both Biotics and Tech, while it was totally viable in 1 to play whatever you wanted no matter what.
a mass effect game with dark souls combat would make me shit myself out of glee
How does that even work
1 had the best skills and also the system that tied achievments with stat bonus(perfect for multiple playthroughs), the ammo selection, armor selection and the best overall history. 2 had the best payoff for previous game choices and the best side-quests. 3 had the best combat and weapon system.
I would've love to see Mass Effect game with a bit less combat, and when combat does happens it should be difficult and present plentiful choices to deal the situation. Not just corridor after corridor killing bunch of nameless mercs.
So Bioware are paying attention to genre's that have hardly any similarity to their own. Sure I'm convinced ME4 will be great!

It may not have been unique, but 3 still had good, fun, competently done gameplay. That's a helluva lot more than ME1 can say, no matter how much I love that game.

Mostly the story
Well take a guess at the reason I've been talking about the gameplay this whole thread. [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] Though again, the powers and their upgrades are still better than 2, and offered more customization and variety than 1.
