Take a close look at this here image. A foetus consists of stemcells. Each cell 'knows' what to do, what it'll become, even if a foetus has just been developing and it can not yet be recognized as an actual human due to the significant lack of limbs. The neural system is still missing which means it can't move, it can't do anything by itself. A foetus of this size is unaware of its surroundings because the lack of a neural system. As seen in the above image, stemcells can become any type of cell, whether it be a muscular cell, neural cell, whatever. Which means lives can be saved if we were to research further on this. However, Christians claim a foetus is alive and should therefore not be messed with. Whether it dies or lives is God's opinion (I don't want to start a shitfest just because of this but I'm just stating the obvious). Should stem cell research be acceptable? In my opinion it's acceptable if the foetus still misses its key features like limbs and an neural system, therefore not being aware.
no
Of all the 'controversial' debates that are currently going on this is probably the one that's most black and white. There's practically no reasonable argument as to why it wouldn't be acceptable.
I don't give a flying fuck.
My uncle had bone marrow cancer and was treated with stem cells.
woman does not want her baby aborts it and gives it to scientists extract stem cells for research ???? profit
Can somebody shed light on this for me please? When a woman donates a foetus for stem cell research, is it 'dead' or 'alive' (you know what I mean when I use those terms)? I mean do they take it out of her for the research and call it an abortion? Or do they take the stem cells from a miscarried foetus? I'm not sure how it works, so I haven't really formed an opinion yet. [editline]18th May 2011[/editline] Wow it feels like I'm typing loads in the quick reply box.
Stem cell research is ethical because the only arguments against it "It's unnatural" and "God says it's bad" are irrelevant and/or unfounded.
Um, stem cells can come from adults too. Fetal stem cells are just ideal, the problem with the Bush Administration outlawing stem cell research is that it was intended to halt fetal stem cell harvesting, but it stopped ALL stem cell research. Humans have stem cells in every part of their body, the research is perfectly ethical, abortion is another matter.
Yes, we already murder thousands of baby's each year might as well have all that death have some good outcome. Other then a pile of dead baby's... Edited: Religions folk say everything is against Gods law and is wrong. And it generally never plays nice with science. And they were the ones that said rolling around in fire was healthy for your soul, oh and hugging plague victims so for stem cell research they need to say STUFF IT to the religions folk and do something that would actually help alot of people who are geting a death sentence before they can even live.
It legitimately angers me to know there are people in the world who don't condone stem cell research.
yes, it would allow advancements in medical technology and shit that i don't even know about. just because a its against "god" isn't a good enough reason. and i want to know why it's wrong to use an already dead fetus? its dumb and a waste if nothing comes out of its already dead body.

OP, is that a serious question?
Yes stemcellresearch should be acceptable as you say.
Full steam ahead. Anybody who disagrees with and fights against stem cell research shouldn't even enjoy the privileges of the nation they live in.
Get on with it, anybody who says stem cells are wrong can just sign a waiver saying use old outdated treatments on me. They can heal a burn victim in a few days with stem cells where as many would die before.
I hate how issues like this that should be accepted by the public get battered around for years.
