Are the items you can buy with ingame currency cosmetic only?

The devs are saying that you can only buy cosmetic stuff with real money, though of course the game is still in development so that might change (hopefully not).
I like the original somewhat.
However, after hearing about mismanagement stuff like seven day work weeks, fearful enviroments keeping employees in place, and developers being fired and leaving en-mass, I've lost a great deal of respect and desire to support a company using such practices.
Have you got a source for that? If it's true then that'd be pretty shitty.

Micro transactions in a game that you have to buy, who really ever thought this is a good idea.
Dungeon defenders 2 is a disgrace to the amazing Dungeon defenders, so many hours were poured into that game. This is fucking terrible.

That Stieglitz is a fucking asshole and an idiot.

dungeon defenders 2 will eventually go free to play once it's released
you're just paying for "early access" and some in-game currency if you buy this

I've been playing DD2 for awhile now and it's really good. A lot of changes for the better. Also, the "horrible" managment removed, there was even a follow-up kotaku saying how it is so much better... and can you really trust old kotaku articles, with this gamergate stuff? I'm just saying maybe people see that article as trustworthy because when they read it, kotaku didn't seem as untrustworthy as they are now.
Also I don't see why a sequel is an insult, unless you hate all sequels.
Sequels aren't that big of a deal if they're spaced apart. I've seen games go without a patch for longer periods of time that have been between releases of Five Nights at Freddy's and they're on sequel number 3. THAT'S ridiculous

This probably isn't going to end well.

it's pretty similar to the first game's business model; pay <$5 for the base game, then charge money for extra levels/characters. Near the end the power creep kept inflating with stuff like nightmare difficulty, but it's not exactly a competitive game (aside from their weird PvP modes) so there wasn't much an advantage you'd get over other people from having certain levels or not. You could never outright pay for equipment, and they said that they're sticking to that in DD2.
it's just that this time they removed the base price to opt for a larger install base.
and now that they have visible armor on players, cosmetics for those were the next step. they already had character skins in DD1 when you bought certain DLC packs.
maybe they'll still charge money for extra levels aside from the few base ones like the original game
as far as i'm concerned it's still the exact same situation it's always been?

I remember paying 15$ for the first game and there were no microtransactions
