This doesn't seem original, besides it's just taking sensors from usually a robot onto a person which depending on a crisis is better to send in a robot which can give more stable readings then the locomotion of a bipedal in a constant state of falling. This is only in the news because it's MIT, any other university or college could have come up with that and probably has.

What should be the goal is to have what you said but have a lidar system similar to kinect projecting in 3 dimensions then 2 from the glasses one would have on.
