When I look at graphics cards what do should I look at to determine which to get?
It all depends on your computer's current hardware specifications, or basically what's inside the box.
ok heres me specs OS Vista 32-bit---- windows 7 64-bit soon CPU AMD Phenom X4 9550 2.2 Ghz ----going to be Phenom II 3.0 ghz soon RAM 4.0GB ---- going to be 6.0GB soon GPU ATI Radeon HD 3870 ---- idk thats why im asking.
Is your computer prebuilt, and could you find out the wattage of your power supply? (It's usally on a sticker on the side of it) This is to find out the limitations of your computer. We'd also need a budget on what you're willing to pay for an upgrade.
My comp is a build that my dads friend did. The only sticker on the power supply unless its on the side thats not open is a warrenty sticker, willing to spend $200 max.
RAM 4.0GB ---- going to be 6.0GB soon
What do you need more ram for?
Wouldn't it be better for gaming in all?
A better video card would make much more of a difference; especially since you already have 4 gigs of ram.
not to mention that you have a 32 bit OS :/
I know 32 bit keeps me at 3.5 or whatever but im upgrading my CPU, GPU and OS, I think my power supply came with the case but thats in the attic and parents are asleep so I will see tomorrow.
Im kind of confused about your point, but a 32 bit OS cannot use more than ~3.5 gigs. This includes VRAM. You will probably have twice the ram you can use if your new graphics card has a gig of VRAM. Are you saying that you wont be upgrading the RAM?
Im going to upgrade to windows 7 64-bit. I will be buying windows 7 and my graphics card on the same day.
If your budget is "only" 200$, I would focus on the CPU, next time you upgrade buy a good GPU and OS. I'm just afraid, that if you buy a high-end GPU, it will be bottlenecked :/
Definitely leave OS and RAM alone on that budget. Focus on CPU+GPU+PSU.
Get 5770
I only want to spend $200 on the GPU I have more than $200. I pulled out my power supply and its 450 watt. Going to buy a 650 than. And I was planning on getting a 5770.

Is 550 watt all I need for a phenom 2 quad core 3.0 ghz and a radeon hd 5770? lol I just noticed thats the same graphics card I bookmarked yesterday. :D

OP, what brand is the PSU?
Its a Antec.
Yeah, no need in getting a new PSU.
Yay $100 saved. I hope getting a new GPU, CPU, and OS fix this problem im having.

Don't get a PSU, his is fine.
oh ok nevermind then
Im pretty sure this one is 80 plus, seeing that pretty much all of antecs are. Is it worth it to get a 5830 instead of a 5770, their specs almost are the same.

He never said what he's going to be playing on it guys. He might need something more high-pref.
