That place would look weird with that street light being so strong nonstop, having nothing to draw attention to.
Expected more than just one moot comparison, really.

That would require effort though
Also isn't the guy in the pre-release image Nick Valentine?
Well god damn, a street light is off
Well god damn, a street light is off
I would say there is more than just a street light off. The entire atmosphere is gone in my opinion. The entire mood was pulled out of the scene. I haven't played the game but just the straight up comparison of the 2 screenshots the trailer image has so much more atmosphere to it.
You'd think they would compare more than just one screenshot.
I get it, pre-release stuff is subject to change until release. But seriously this is fucking false advertising and I hate it. It does NOT look like it's advertised on the screenshots so you don't get the product as it's being shown. And they keep using those old screens on the front page on Steam.
Same happened with Dark Souls 2. Namco and From kept using the old E3 screens for Xbox Live. At least they changed the screenshots 1 week before release on the Steam store site.
I'd kill for string lights that worked like wires in settlements, and looked like those pre-release ones.
I'm sure I can get it to look like the screenshots if I can ever get the proper textures to load reliably. They usually get stuck on low or pretty much mud after a couple of zone transitions.

Yeah Fallout 4 seems to have some serious problems actually loading things in for me, frequently it take ages for textures to load in from anything above blurry ass low quality ones and have frequently run into places in the open world that the game hasn't loaded in and thrust into a paused loading screen.
Also i'm guessing loading is the reason why it sometimes takes half an hour to switch weapons, the game seems to have some serious technical issues and I don't know whether it's because Bethbryo has reached it's breaking point or if it's just their usual shoddy coding.
It's not just the street light. There are several props that seem to be missing as well. It's really odd.
For instance, those awnings are just completely gone. Same with the weird pipe thing. It was a really well-populated scene, and now it's just sort of empty.
at this point does anyone actually expect a game to looks like it's pre-release screenshots or trailers?
they never do

doesn't make it right when they advertise it as finished.
Come on, you can't possibly defend beth on this one. It's not even just them, this scummy practice is used by just about everybody nowadays. Which excuses nothing, obviously.

I really was surprised at how not shit fallout 4 turned out, but I hate how Beth gets away with everything
doesn't make it right when they advertise it as finished.
I agree, I don't think it's right either. But I still think if you believe the hype of pre-release anything at this stage you deserve to get burned.
9 times out of 10 prerelease isn't what you're going to get. You'll probably get something that's 80% of what it was in promotional material
Wonder if there's demand for a detail mod for Fallout 4 that just adds this level of immersive detail?
Wonder if there's demand for a detail mod for Fallout 4 that just adds this level of immersive detail?
I'd sure as hell download it.
It's weird because from what I've seen, at least of the PC version, the game didn't get a visual downgrade in the sense that it's impossible to recreate trailer footage or anything once people get their hands on modding tools. It just.. seems like they stripped down and altered that area after they made the trailer.
But then a lot of people were bitching about the game not exactly looking remarkable since the very first trailer, too.
It looks like you could get that kind of lighting through image space modding. See: any darker nights mod for Skyrim.
It's a shame Fallout 4 ended up having the same old washed out nights, but that pre-release screenshot certainly isn't beyond the game.
Bullshots are a practice that need to go. If you advertise your product with something that's not in the full game you're inevitably going to catch flak for it. However if you just advertise with what it has, or even ADD something, you'll at least be praised for delivering.
Bullshots = Bullshit.

They've had those mods since Morrowind and they're always popular. FO4 will have them too.
Outside of this single comparison. FO4 looks much better in person than in any of the videos or screenshots. Atleast in my experience.
It's an unfortunate reality that you really can't expect games to look the way they do at E3. The fact that everyone does this doesn't make it ok that they do it, but it's plainly obvious that a lot of companies are taking versions of the game that can't actually run on consoles or PCs or whatever and showing those off, promising better looking games than you often actually get. And that's not entirely surprising even if it is stupid. E3 is a very controlled show, instances like the Ass Creed IV freeze up and that Uncharted game breaking for like 2 full minutes are the exact things they don't want to see. What you see at E3 is tightly choreographed from where characters go, what happens, and what it looks like, to sell it in those 5 minutes. It's not a realistic portrayal of what you'll actually get, so you shouldn't really trust gameplay footage because it's not representative of gameplay. You kinda can't put 100 percent faith in anything that's said or shown at E3. It's why I kinda think I should just skip E3 and all the hype culture surrounding it and just read the cliff notes. What games were announced and so on.
I'm not surprised Diamond City was scaled down from that atmospheric pre-release shot. From what I understand Diamond City is a framerate nightmare for all sorts of systems and I doubt those atmospheric lights and cloths were going to help that. Hopefully after the mod tools are released and the game has had some optimization patches (I mean they're going to fix those framerate issues right?) people will re-add that in along with a fuck more things, the way they usually do.

That's partly an illusion thanks to the lowered FOV, but it's still odd.

I read that using the ENB binaries or something and specifying your amount of VRAM in it fixed the muddy textures, don't take my word for it, as I haven't tried it myself yet.
better than what other devs do
the only changes I see are prop changes rather than having entire graphics options that were in the E3 not shown in release

to be fair the whole lighting of the scene looks worse if you look at the area around the signs to the left

and the entire lighting system
