What a disappointment this is likely to be.
Some odd choices there for sure, but RPS really likes to over exaggerate:
It’s also concerning to see the PC/Mac (they fell short of their stretch goal for a Linux version – a daft move when Linux support is so vital for bundle sales) entirely unmentioned in the press release, which in doing so strongly implies to readers that the game is mobile only
Really? I doubt they've sidelined a PC version just because it wasn't mentioned in a press release.
Linux, vital, lol.
Jesus RPS, do some research before making articles like these please. Molyneux have gone over it SO MANY TIMES that Godus is a game that is first and foremost developed for the PC, that it's not a F2P game, and that there is none of that microtransaction bullshit. It's one full priced game and that's it, they've made this so perfectly clear so many times, but still, whenever they say something about mobile phones and the like people just have to jump the shark.
especially since Mobage is currently exclusively used for F2P/microtransaction games.
False. Most games are F2P, but there are full priced games on the mobile market without any microtransactions or F2P models.
What a disappointment this is likely to be.
So far looking at the update videos they put out weekly (when they can) it looks pretty good as a whole and downright amazing for alpha.
What a disappointment this is likely to be.
Everyone was hoping for a Black and White style God game, instead we get a simplified social mobile game. People who backed the KS probably won't be as they know what it is (should know at least), but yeah everyone else already is, when the new Molyneux God game turned out to be that. I was more than willing to give him another chance since he made so many amazing games in the past and was free of MS control, but I think it's fair to say he's lost his touch now.

But that's just the basics of the gameplay, the overall picture, but all the small bits, the minute to minute parts that makes games what they are, we simply do not know yet. So why the hate? In it's current form it's a much more grand, better and improved Populous with a Black & White twist to it and inspiration from Dungeon Keepers endless joy of digging and forming the land. In the latest video we saw some orange light emitting from the ground through cracks which he commented was the Dungeon Keeper part of it, we didn't see more of it so I'm looking forward to finding out what they're going to do with that, seems like the underground is going to play a role here too, albeit probably in a more indirect way as it's highly unlikely that we will actually be able to go underground.
