So I know most people recommened the 212+, but in my case my processor has lately been getting to extreme high temps.
I have a Phenom Quad Core Black edition with the stock
Playing SWTOR, my processor hits record highs at around 82C. Would the 212+ efficiently alleviate this to at least 70C? I have also tried putting thermal paste and lowering the voltage to 1.1V.
I also want to get a new case as the airflow in mine is HORRENDOUS. Would the 212+ be good or should I allocate my money to a new case? Remember, I'm broke as balls.
the 212 evo would be better and hell a good airflow case for $70 would be the cooler master storm scout.
case $70 + heatsink $30 = $100, Surely you have $100.

Also I thought AMD's downclocked around 72c?
I figured it would shut off at some point. I've heard it shuts off when a certain part of the processor reaches a certain temp, and the core temp is not that temp. Or maybe it's just not that temp, either way my processor must be getting damaged at 82C.
Thanks for the case recommendation, however I really don't have 100$ right now. I just want to save what I have. SWTOR is the first game I've boughten in ages and I don't want to not be able to play it.
your current heatsink is fine if you just want the temps to go down, you just need to reapply the heatsink with new thermal paste. It likely lost contact once, somehow, and is now poorly making contact
I have applied new thermal paste and it did make a difference, it's still this fucking hot.
Just for clarification, you are saying my heatsink performs generally as good as the 212+? If so that would break my heart. Do you have any other recommendations? And thanks for helpin out
you're doing something wrong, overclocking, fan is broken, or who knows what else. Just get the 212+, it has much more capacity to cool and it's not that easy to mess up the installation.
Alright, thanks for the information.
On of my friends had a 955 X4 hitting about those temps he got a 212+ and it cut them down to 30-40c

Kind of a drastic change but I guess its possible, but yeah get the 212+ or evo as it should lower your temps quit a bit. Also is there good airflow in your case? Thats one reason why I suggested the storm scout in case you didnt.
The airflow is pretty bad, so I think I will get that case in a few weeks when I have the money to spend.

antec 900 along with new thermal paste really improved over the stock
Well guys, looks like I'm gonna go sell myself on the street.
