Does anybody have experience laying wooden floors?

Basically, my step dad is a lazy ass and is delaying putting down my flooring until the room is "clean enough to work with" even though it makes much more sense to just clean as you go because the room honestly isn't that messy.
Today my uncle and grandpa told me to just be the bigger man and start laying the flooring down myself. Either he'll look like a lazy idiot because I did it all, or he'll be forced to start helping.
I helped him lay down flooring in their roo, so I have somewhat of an idea on how to do it, but I looked up the instructions for what I have, and it was saying things like I should cut the floorboards before I start a new row, but when we did it, we only cut the planks when there wasn't enough room, and then just started a new row with the part we sliced off.
Also, this stuff has some sort of adhesive grip on the bottom that supposedly makes it easier to work with, but I'm still confused as fuck as to how I'm going to get this done.
Any tips? We already have the carpet all pulled up and we smoothed out the concrete, so I really just have to start laying it down.

As far as I know, you put this spongy things under wooden floors. Then you just put them together like lego with those special shapes at the sides. When you need a shorter bit just cut it with a saw.
