"Y'know what the problem with MOBAs is these days? Everyone's obsessed with farming."
But in all seriousness, lets hope the mechanics in this title are a bit better than Borderlands. Especially in terms of special abilities, since you only ever had one active ability, two if you count grenades. (but you shouldn't because grenades are not abilities)
Woo another MOBA...
Karl, is that you?

Another MOBA, sure. But it is Gearbox. Faith. I have faith.

Wow and obviously they didn't show off trailers for said game that actually looked fine before and then released a piece of crap at release, just so they could focus more on a boring unbalanced
Co-Op game
But yeah lol I could be wrong, might've been someone else

Lets count all the games made by Gearbox generally considered good:

Now lets count all the ones pretty universally considered bad:

Obviously Gearbox is a terrible company though.

It's not Colonial Marines what makes Gearbox bad. It's the CEO Randy Pitchford who used money and employee from Aliens and put it into Borderlands 2, without telling Sega anything.
This is what makes Gearbox bad. DNF doesn't even count since it's mostly made by ex-3D realms.

Aprox. 4 different developers worked on Condition Zero.

Whenever I hear people whine about Gearbox, all i hear is "DNF and Colonial Marines were bad", so
MOBAS have become the 2010s version of 80s/90s mascot platformers.
Two major games made by competing companies have come out and had wild success, to the point of being considered classics. The sheer amount of money these two giants are making draws in various other dev teams to make their own versions, all of which are either inferior, ignored in favor of the bigger names, or both.
Everyone will remember the two biggest series well and fondly, but the rest will sink into the ocean of mediocrity, blandness and lack of identity that they've created in trying to copy the success stories.
Also, a true heir to the awfulness of Bubsy will probably be born during this repeated cycle. It happened once, it'll happen again, take heed of my warning.

What I'm talking about is this.

And it's most definitely true, since Aliens turned out to be a horrible mess with lots of false advertising.

DNF doesn't count because they essentially finished and released it so it could be released
DNF doesn't count because they essentially finished and released it so it could be released
a good 90 percent of it was handled by what was left of 3D Realms in gearbox's offices
Anyone who is already into MOBAs will not join this or the 26 other MOBAs that aren't DOTA or LoL.
This seems closer to Smite or Monday Night Combat than those games. I swear, people are quick to be down on this game just because it has some light MOBA elements.
Gearbox have made terrible games and meh games. Borderlands is pretty popular and kinda stands out but it's no masterpiece.
And also it's a pretty scummy company, see the whole ACM fiasco.
how would light moba elements even work in an FPS? and how does a medieval fps work?
if The Killer's album was anything to go by I'm going to avoid things named Battleborn
Dat music tho

SMNC meets Chivalry:MW?
Normally I hate mobas but this one is a "first person shooter with moba aspects" and it's not free-to-play and it's PC/Xbone/PS4 and it has a campaign. Also I have beta access (for when the beta happens anyway) so I guess I'll see how it turns out.
Knew it was a MOBA as soon as I saw the image in the article. MOBAs seem to have this half cartoony style to it, making them all appear the same and at the same time giving the impression that they are all moneygrabs after Dota's immense success. The only question is who can put most "variety" into it, and in this case it appears to be 'first person perspective'. Truly ground-breaking innovation at it's highest peak in this golden age of gaming.
This MOBA trend needs to stop.
Too bad, it's a gaming trend now. People will toss their hats into it until the trend wears off and another one comes around.
who gives a fuck about mobas now? people who play lol and dota will play lol and dota, and those that dont will either play dota or lol or some other game that isn't a moba because moba communities are the worst.

I'm pretty sure they knew DNF was garbage too but they had no problem polishing a turd and pushing it out the door.
It makes me wonder, with this MOBA trend, if Uberent re-released SMNC as a "new" game, would it be successful?
I wonder if all these nameless MOBAs are actually making money or are being just straight out ignored by gamers.
Because I can't imagine that many are going to switch from DOTA 1, 2 or League of Legends to any of these games.
