How do I change my IP address/getting around an IP ban? - Hardware & Software

My router's IP was banned from a website, and I figured leaving the router off for 12 hours would reset it, but it still seems to be banned. If I use a direct connection from my modem to my PC, it works fine, so does anyone know how to change the IP on a Microsoft router?

You can always call your ISP and ask them to do it.

Most connections nowadays have dynamic IPs, try unplugging the router and cable/DSL modem for ten minutes.

How is calling my ISP going to get me around an IP ban on my router? I can access the website with a direct connection to my modem, meaning my IP from my ISP isn't banned.

Calling the ISP and asking them to change the IP will change the IP. What's so hard to understand? Also, 192.168.x.x (the router's IP) isn't the one that sites ban.

Does it say you're banned or does it simply not load the page? I'm taking time with this because it makes zero sense that whether or not you're connected to a certain router makes all the difference.

Not sure of your specific setup either. Do this. Look up your IP address when you're directly connected to the modem by going to one of those what's my ip sites. Then connect through the router and do the same thing. Tell me if they are the same or different. If they are the same, you are probably not IP banned and the problem lies elsewhere (likely with you). If they aren't the same, you are using a public IP address and that means you are using two IP addresses to communicate with the internet. Solution would to be to make your IP address private. May just want to set the router to default settings because it would be easiest if you don't know what you're doing. Not sure if he has two different public IP addresses, usually you only get one and then everything on your network has a private IP, but the issue looks to be that he has two public addresses, and that makes perfect sense with what's wrong. You can get sued if you're using an IP that doesn't belong to you, so you may want to change it, unless your ISP provides with with more than 1 public IP.

Most DHCP servers have a lease time of 24 hours. though that isn't a standard, you can set it to be a week or a month pretty easily. Leaving a modem off for 12 hours won't do anything unless you catch DHCP server at the time of the update. Routers have their own IP address because they have their own MAC address which makes the ISPs DHCP server give it one. You can have a pile of different routers and they'll all have different IP addresses.

Unless I'm missing something.
