oh my GOD
this looks incredible
This looks much better then the past version, too bad I dont like desura.
Yeah, a lot of people posted comments about disliking desura. I wouldn't want to install it for one mod either but I find it more annoying going back and downloading little patches.
I'm not a type of guy that likes these kind of games but this looks fucking sick.
Been following this for a while, was gonna make some models for it but got side tracked with life. I am not sure how up to date the SVN is but here, http://svn.hl2wars.com/. I've put off installing Desura this long, not going to give in now.
Dude, I've not seen a release for this since... well... 2008! This is pretty awesome!
Its times like these I hate being on a mac.
Was excited and then saw "DESURA REQUIRED" and went "Meh" to myself. Well atleast it isn't Origin.
I think desura just downloads and installs the game into steam for you, which I can do myself. No need for some other client.
I downloaded this three days ago and was disappointed it didn't work for me and there were no servers as well, and well now this... The same thing happened with Overwatch for me as well except that one worked.
No games running, no ai, and it seems servers are broken... Already starting off to a great release!
No games running, no ai, and it seems servers are broken... Already starting off to a great release!
Beta =/= Release.
Beta =/= Release.
You can't even add CPU Opponents for offline play.
If you choose sandbox mode you can launch it without an ai. The ai actually doesn't do or build anything too.
Oh wow. I played the first version years ago. No idea it was still in development.
Ive played this a long time ago, thought it was dead. Already installing.
Oh hey - I remember this mod
The main dev posted a zip link in one of the moddb comments. http://hl2wars.com/download/releases/2.0.0/hl2wars_2_0_0.zip (zip version uploaded on moddb now)
I remember playing this way way back when it first started. They should aim to greenlight it if they can put in effective AI and balance it out.
I actually like Desura as a piece of software more than Steam.
You can't even add CPU Opponents for offline play.
That's why it's still a beta. Stop whining. When it releases and has that kind of issue, then you can complain.
holy shit this is still being made? omg omg omg [editline]28th September 2012[/editline]
I think desura just downloads and installs the game into steam for you, which I can do myself. No need for some other client.
It auto updates basically imagine that is makes the mod a proper steam game, with automatic updating and whatnot It's a VERY cool program that I suggest you all try out at some point. It's very sleek and sexy too
That's why it's still a beta. Stop whining. When it releases and has that kind of issue, then you can complain.
really tired of this "it's a beta" excuse if you're a game developer and you're putting out a beta, it had better work. otherwise wait to release.
wait what the entire point for a beta is so they can have external testing to make sure things DO work on different hardware setups
really tired of this "it's a beta" excuse if you're a game developer and you're putting out a beta, it had better work. otherwise wait to release.
it's a beta, not a release candidate; it's not bloody finished. it's really not a hard concept to understand.
really tired of this "it's a beta" excuse if you're a game developer and you're putting out a beta, it had better work. otherwise wait to release.
entitlement, much?
More like an alpha.
Developers use beta builds to get opinions, find bugs and balance the game. Its not a complete game, and if you treat it as such you're a fucking idiot.
I know what the purpose of a beta client is. My point was I'm tired of betas being massively fucked on release, and people rushing to the defense of the shitty client screaming "but it's beta!" And no, I'm not referring specifically to HL2 Wars beta, I'm saying in general, in response to things like this:
That's why it's still a beta. Stop whining. When it releases and has that kind of issue, then you can complain.
My reply wasn't directed at this game, it was directed more at developers who are really releasing a client barely worthy of the alpha title and slapping beta on it for shits and giggles, which happens a lot these days, and the legions of fanboys that spring to the defense of the shitty client by squealing "IT'S STILL BETA!" Maybe I'm just old school, but even just a couple years ago beta meant a developer was saying "hey, we've got our game about 80% complete, SOME features aren't totally there yet, a couple maps aren't finished and we've got just a few bugs left to iron out but most of the game is playable / working." And occasionally a tester would find something massive that the devs missed in internal testing, but it would get fixed fairly quickly. For instance, the CS:GO beta. Valve had their shit together when they released it. Bugs here and there, sure, but most of them got worked out and the game was pretty much fully playable. Chill on the hair trigger responses.
