• Phenom Dual-Core Bottleneck 4870?

I was planning on getting a quad-core phenom 9550, but I've read that a faster dual-core can be just as good. However, I'm planning on getting a HD4870 1GB. Will the GPU be bottlenecked at all? If not, which is a decent dual-core?
It shouldn't be a bottleneck, at least not for gaming. The best dual-core is the Phenom II X2 550. If you can, you might even want to go up to the X3 720. :furcry:
how much is the phenom 9550? i can't find it on newegg, it better be dirt cheap cause it's a garbage processor. getting a triple core phenom II is much better
Don't go for 1st gen Phenoms.
The Phenom I 9550 is a steaming pile of shit. Stay away. It's a deactivated item on Newegg for a reason. Oh wait, you're a TigerDirect buyer, so it might be there. Yeah, it's not even on TigerDirect. If your motherboard can support it, I'd go for a Phenom II X2 550.

No, that's a Phenom II X4 945. This is the CPU I was talking about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680
Don't get 4890. Not worth the performance boost it gives you over the 4870.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea the 4core was a PoS.
