Funny how Joss wants to be thought of as someone who respects women by buddying up to Anita, but when it comes to actually writing strong female characters, he never quite gets there, and then when people call him on it, he takes his ball and leaves. :v: I mean, I'm not defending harrasment on Twitter if he was legitimately harrassed and abused, but you shouldn't dance if you're not ready for the tempo, Joss.
Is it just people overreacting as usual or is Black Widow really poorly written in the new Avengers? I haven't seen it yet.
Is it just people overreacting as usual or is Black Widow really poorly written in the new Avengers? I haven't seen it yet.
Overreacting, in my opinion. She's as bland as she was before, and the only interesting thing about her [sp]being sterile[/sp] gets kind of ruined because of the forced [sp]Hulk romance[/sp] (but maybe that's just me, a lot of people seemed to like it)
So as someone who hasn't seen the film, is this just the regular "Female lead characters aren't allowed to have weak spots because that would be sexist" bullshit?
So as someone who hasn't seen the film, is this just the regular "Female lead characters aren't allowed to have weak spots because that would be sexist" bullshit?
Yeah, pretty much. I usually call it "making the Terminator a hot chick doesn't make a character"
So as someone who hasn't seen the film, is this just the regular "Female lead characters aren't allowed to have weak spots because that would be sexist" bullshit?
She doesn't even have weak spots. This is about her considering herself as a monster because she was an assassin and about a joke Tony Stark makes about Asgardians when trying to pick up Thor's hammer.

I've heard black widows attraction to hulk is either a hit or a miss with how you feel about it.
So as someone who hasn't seen the film, is this just the regular "Female lead characters aren't allowed to have weak spots because that would be sexist" bullshit?
It's more that Joss Whedon is extremely hypocritical and keeps preaching strong female characters as a mantra but can't figure out how to write one if his life depended on it. In the Avengers 2, Black Widow's characters is limited to crying over [sp]a man not wanting to fuck her and being infertile[/sp], being able to fight a couple of people at once with sticks, and serving up drinks at a bar. She's insanely one dimensional and stereotypical. She doesn't have weak spots because she virtually has no character. She's just a presence for eye candy and serves as a tool for the progression of other characters.

How does someone go from being the writer and director of one of the most entertaining movies of all time to being such a tool? I've really been disliking Joss Whedon as of late.
Yeah I agree, she could have totally solo'd Ultron no probs god Joss way to be a bad writer
I don't get how the thor's hammer part is relevant?
He says “I will be reinstituting Prima Nocta.”
Prima Nocta being the ancient (and possibly mostly mythical) right of noblemen to take the virginity of a peasant woman before she was married.
This obviously means Joss Whedon wants to rape peason women.
I've heard black widows attraction to hulk is either a hit or a miss with how you feel about it.
It's definitely not the movie's strong point. Black Widow[sp] rid[/sp]ing Hulk is pretty cool though
Honestly thought pretty much all of Black Widow's dialogue was pretty terrible this time around. I was visibly cringing with embarassment during the romance scenes. They're just really forced and there's no chemistry. Pretty much just exist just to [sp] make hulk go away at the end of the movie and no other reason [/sp]
Good. He's a hypocrite that's shitposted for a good while now
How does someone go from being the writer and director of one of the most entertaining movies of all time to being such a tool?
I'm assuming you mean The Avengers, because damn that is hyperbole and a half.
How does someone go from being the writer and director of one of the most entertaining movies of all time to being such a tool? It really is a shame.
Am I the only one that likes Black Widow because she kicks ass? God forbid she looks like an actually acrobatic and beautiful female assassin with certain kinds of problems instead of a shoe faced brute build woman with rainbow colored hair who constantly whines about bullshit or that piledrives everything. Because thats soo interesting, right?!
Is it just people overreacting as usual or is Black Widow really poorly written in the new Avengers? I haven't seen it yet.
She was temporarily a damsel in distress, but I think it's because the actress was pregnant at the time.
I'm so sick of this double standard bullshit where if a woman acts like a woman it's fucking sexist but it's ok for a meathead like thor to be a character? fuck you then. if you're going to complain about females being a certain way in film, then you need to look at how much men get it as well. I don't know, it was kinda dumb. It felt off, it felt out of character even. But at least it wasn't overly abundant in the film and ruined it. Black Widow over-all is a great supporting character but I really don't see what's unique about her aside from being some generic spy. She doesn't seem that important. Even Hawkeye feels a bit more important.

Black Widow's [sp]infertility[/sp] is surprising but the [sp]Hulk romance[/sp] came out of nowhere
But she shot someone in the face, so she must be a strong character!
Bonus points if the person she shot was straight, white, cis, male, and wealthy. Those guys are literally satan. /s On Whedon, I'm hoping he learns a valuable lesson from this; Anita Sarkeesian's personal twitter army of rabid psychopaths is not the sort of group that should be supported. And that being a white knight makes you a huge tool.
If any good has come out of this its that Whedon will actually realize how crazy a lot of today's feminists are, it seems like he blabs his mouth off so he can feel self righteous without knowing anything.

It seemed more of a [sp]I can take a life but can't give it so I'm a monster[/sp]
Isn't she a standard human fighting robots and shit? That's pretty impressive I'd say. I mean, how many women extras are in the movie running from danger and she's at least trying to do something. People always are sad about the physical and what they see. When you have to hire a god and a super mutant to fight for you and this lady is having a crack you gotta give them props.
