Hi guys,
My girlfriend just got a new pc and set a password and she's already forgot it, I have looked around the web and cannot seem to find a free working password reset for a bootable USB drive.
I was wondering if anyone know's one that works.
Many thanks
Daniel.
i think you can change the password via CMD, iirc i tried that once
lemme look it up, will report back
Please also let me know how to open CMD via windows 10 (windows 10 noob here) as i struggled to find the boot menu lol
just to confirm, can you startup .exes with admin priviliges without introducing a password?
You have a couple options:
If they associated the user account with a Microsoft account, you can reset the password on any Microsoft website. http://microsoft.com
You can use a password reset key, there is plenty of software that is on the web.
If you have an install disc, you can enable the built-in Administrator account through the registry in Windows PE. https://4sysops.com/archives/offline-enable-the-windows-8-built-in-administrator-account/ Under "Enable the built-in administrator account in the Registry ^" After you remove the password with the built-in account, run "net user administrator /active:no" in an elevated cmd prompt as it's unsafe for a regular user to have access to that account.
If you don't want to do any of that or it's too hard for you, do a factory reset. THIS WILL REMOVE EVERYTHING FROM THE COMPUTER. You can find it by holding shift and clicking restart in your power options on the lock screen.
Hiya all, It has been resolved, My girlfriend din't turn on Num Lock when typing in the password.
on hindsight my tip wouldn't have worked if the account that was used wasn't an admin account

Boot your computer from Windows installation media, follow this guide to open CMD and add a new admin account:

This can help you get back into the system when you forgot the password of a local or Microsoft login.
Now as you can login successfully, I recommend you create a password-reset disk within the Control Panel. This will come in handy in case you forgot the password next time.

I've never had it work for me in 10. Worked in 8 and earlier just fine but the few times I've tried it in 10 it's never done the trick. Can't properly mount the hive.
