Here are my current specs, I'm considering picking up a new GPU in the near future, what do you guys think? Is my CPU showing any age that would affect a new GPUs performance?

nope your good

the Q9550 is still a top of the line quad
As long as you don't get beyond a 5870-or so level of performance, you're not going to see much of a CPU bottleneck.
What's your budget?

My Q9550 doesn't bottleneck my 5870.

I don't really have a set budget in mind, anywhere from $50-200+USD if the performance is worthwhile, although Id prefer the $100-150 mark.
Get this.

I was saying that a stock-clocked Q9550 might bottleneck a 5870/GTX 285, but that can be easily rectified.
I thought only duals were bad when it comes to high powered cards?
and low-end quads (Q8___)

Get this if you don't care its powercolor and you want free DiRT 2
I wouldn't upgrade to a 5770 from sli 8800s. You're actually slightly downgrading if you go to a single 5770. You're better off saving the money for something like a 5850 or sli 5770's once there is a drop in price.

It's not SLI, its one card running dual-monitors. I don't actualy have room for 2 graphics cards inside the case and due to the mass of wires anything besides popping out a GPU would be a bit of a pain.
The 5770 Looks like a nice choice and I like the look of this one. How powerful will it feel a year down the road though?

Oh, then disregard what I said. Get XFX HD 5770 posted above by YumYum.
Also is there anything worth waiting for? I'm not in any hurry if somethings around the corner.

Well you can wait ~2months for Nvidias 400 series ( or is it still 300? can't keep up w/ the name changes) which should drop prices or have better price to performance than the 5770.
Definitely get the 5770, or even a 5850 if you can afford it. Those will easily outperform your 8800.
You could give cable management a go while you're at it, which would make it easier to work in your computer and make airflow much better.

I've considered it but I'm also a little hesitant to try since its working perfectly.

I wouldn't call the Q8 series low-end.
Well okay they're not the best but they're not trash.
How much of an upgrade will that 5770 be over my current 8800GTS?

Significantly faster, especially at higher resolutions. In 3DMark vantage, for example, an 8800 GTS 640 will get around 4500 GPU points, whereas a 5770 will get above 8000 and overclock like a bitch.

What kind of games would I be able to max? I play at 1680x1050.
3 IDE hard drives? I thought SATA was the standard now.
They are in IDE mode I am pretty sure.
SATA's the standard but there's no speed gain over the latest IDE. It's just space-saving. His drives are fine as long as the speeds of them aren't bottlenecking him.
EDIT: All of the people that rated me disagree don't know what the fuck they're talking about, fyi
GTX 260 Core 216?
Okay I got my 5770 and The performance is nice but its a little bit dodgey, I was playing gmod and every now and then the screen would flash and go off for a few seconds due to some sort of driver crash. While working on various non-gaming tasks I notice an occasional screen tear out of nowhere.
I think I got rid of all my 8800GTS drivers and I installed the latest ATI Catalyst one from a disc included with the card(It went online and gave me a link to it).
I was thinking it was maybe an issue with PSU power but I have a 750watt Corsiar so it doesnt really seem like the issue, however I'm going to install 2 additional DVD burners so Ill have four total so I want to get that issue out of the way as well.
Well it's not the card I can tell you that. I have a 5770 and have never experienced anything like that.
Try Roling Back The Drivers And Then Update Again.
Try Roling Back The Drivers And Then Update Again.
What exactly do you mean by that?
I've been playing gmod for a while and everyone 10 or so minutes my screen turns off and comes back after a few seconds saying display driver crashed.
