• Assault on Dark Athena, laggy menu

As the title states. Bought Assault today, because hey, two well reviewed games in one for £3.75. I was dubious my laptop would have the ability to run these well, but looking at their minimum and recommended specs, I assumed I'd be able to get a decent enough framerate on low settings. My system:
Operating System MS Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2 CPU Intel Pentium T4200 @ 2.00GHz 38 °C Penryn 45nm Technology RAM 4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz (5-5-5-15) Motherboard Acer CathedralPeak (U2E1) Graphics Generic PnP Monitor @ 1366x768 Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Hard Drives 156GB Western Digital WDC WD1600BEVT-22ZCT0 ATA Device (SATA) 46 °C Optical Drives TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633A ATA Device ELBY CLONEDRIVE SCSI CdRom Device Audio Realtek High Definition Audio
Game min specs:
S: Windows XP sp2, Vista Processor: Intel Pentium D 805 or AMD Athlon X2 +3800 (Intel Core2Duo 1.8GHz or AMD Athlon X2 +5200 recommended) Memory: 1GB (2GB Vista) Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT or NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra (ATI Radeon HD 3850 or NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT recommended) Hard Drive: 11 GB free Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible
My only concern was my integrated graphics which would undoubtedly crap itself a bit. However, first time I played it, the main menu itself was unusable, it lagged so badly. I've never seen anything so horrid in my life. I must have been getting one or two FPS from it. Even using arrow keys to select the options produced something like a three second wait. Having browsed around, I've found other reports of people encountering the same problems, and usually on decent desktop gaming rigs. They switched machines and still got the same problem. I tried the only patch that's been released, to no avail. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this and/or how I can fix it?
moved to tech support, read GGD rules
Ooh, sorry, missed that one. Thanks for not banning me.
Any ideas, anyone?
Your chipset doesn't support openGL 3+, you're lucky it works at all.
..Good luck trying to run any new game well with an intel chipset.
