Yo,
My PC started to die on the weekend so I bought new RAM for it. (6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 Classic 1333MHz)
Now my current RAM is some Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) 1600MHz.
Basically, the short story is - I bought new RAM of 1333MHz thinking my old RAM was also 1333MHz. Is there anyway I can get the 1600 to work with the 1333? Also Speccy is saying that my current RAM is 666MHz?
DDR = Double Data Rate = 666x2 = 1333.
If you're running both sets, then the 1600 set should just clock down to 1333.
They are both DDR3. The old RAM is 1600MHz and new is 1333MHz. So I should be ok?
If i do plug it and and it doesnt work will the PC simply not boot correctly? It's not going to give me some catastrophic pc breaking error is it?

May work, might not work.
But if it doesn't, all that will happen is that it wont boot and possibly beep at you. Nothing will explode.
Before you do though, it'll probably be best to reset the BIOS settings to defaults.
Assuming you have six slots which are triple-channeled on the motherboard, put each kit in it's own channel, don't mix the sticks in one channel.
I've got 4 slots, I bought 6GB so that if 1 did fail I'd have a spare.
Ideally, use two 1600 sticks in one channel and two 1333 stick in another. (Channels are usually colour-coded)
They both should work fine, in fact with the 1600s clocked down to 1333 they should be more stable than normal.
(the speed difference is completely unnoticeable)
Seeing as this thread is still here. I'll use it to bump myself.
I just went to install the CMX6GX3M3MA1333C9 ram but it only works in different coloured RAM slots.
Blue - White. BUT if i put it in Blue Blue it causes a blank screen on start up
It also causes a blank screen on start up if i put it with my TR3X6G1600C9, it again causes a blank screen on start up.

How do you set RAM speed in the BIOS? 2 sticks are 1600 and 2 sticks are 1333. They don't work together at the moment. I can only either run 1600 or 1333.
Then put the ram in White White. Motherboards require you insert RAM into the first color slots first or it won't work. If you have more than 2 sticks put the rest in the Blue. There should be labels on the board like A1-A2 and B1-B2 or similar. You want to install ram in A1-A2 first.
If you STILL don't get it, they
Mean put the 1600 in the white slots and the 1333 ram in the blue slots or whatever color the slots are.

He's on triple channel btw. He would want to select the 2nd closest one to cpu, then skip one, ram here, skip one, then ram here.
That being said, LGA1366 is VERY picky on ram. You'd be lucky if some how you'd get different density ram or different speeds, or just generally different IC's.
