Before jumping on it, Playstation 4 won't play PS3 games as well (except you can download the PS3 games and then play it on the PS4 of course.)
Fuck that shit.

PS4 won't play PS3 games but you can download them and play them on PS4 what?
PS4 won't play PS3 games but you can download them and play them on PS4 what?
PS3 uses the Cell chipset while the new PS4 uses a x64 architect. So unless they also add a Cell chip it won't work.

Just like the PS3 with the PS2 games you have to buy them in the store I think.
PS4 won't play PS3 games but you can download them and play them on PS4 what?
I think they did the same with PS2 games on the PS3 no-backwards compatible models. In the case of the PS4 I think it's streamed.
I never really got the point of this? "I'm gonna get rid of my current console and buy a new console so I can play my old games"
why not just keep your old console, or play new games?
historically b/c has never been strong on consoles, it was always more of a PC thing really
Whenever I upgrade my computer or even get a new one, I'm not forced to stop playing my old games. Shit, even OS updates can't stop me, the same should go for games consoles.
This is why I'm completely skipping the "next gen".
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
That and I have no reason to own a console.

They're going to recycle this generation so much longer than they did the 360's

I think my reason of getting a console is for the console exclusives and the ease of it. Right now i cannot sit back on the couch, open a beer and play some racing game.
Big Screen Mode is coming close it from Steam but my TV is in a other room.

nope. they're using gaikai for ps3 games. they'll be streamed.

That's just a rumor, they only confirmed streaming demos and such.
who needs backwards compatibility when everyone already has the xbox 360, also since it's new architecture that won't support it shouldn't make people that angry
I really don't understand why people get upset when consoles don't include backwards compatibility.

Unless you used to have a mac when they went from powerPC to x86

Rosetta only worked for very simple programs though, like word processors. Doing software emulation to allow playing old powerPC Xbox 360 games would be basically impossible.
The era of fuck your old games this is the fucking future has begun.
Nah but really, what can we do? If it's too much of an issue to make the hardware backwards compatible, then we have to make sure our old systems stay alive.
Great job, guys!.
I'd say the whole conference was a fuck up.
I think I'll skip this generation
This is unsurprising as it's a completely different beast underneath than the 360.
Backwards compatibility was only really a recent generation thing due in part to the adoption of disc based media doing away with cartridges.

Backwards compatibility isn't recent. You must have never owned one of these bad boys

Gave you the ability to run Master System games on your Mega Drive.
NoT being able to play my old Xbox games just solidifies the fact I wont be bothering with this generation of consoles.
who cares. if you have enough 360 games to care about backwards compatibility chances are you have a 360 already.
who cares. if you have enough 360 games to care about backwards compatibility chances are you have a 360 already.
I still play a bunch of old Xbox games on my 360. My old Xbox broke years ago, so it's nice to be able to play 1st gen games on a 2nd gen console.
I don't know why people think just because it's not the same hardware means it can't be b/c.
The 360 was completely different than the original, and it still played most popular Xbox games.
I know it's emulation, but I still think they can pull it off.
damn ninjas
And suddenly everybody cares about backwards compatibility. If you want to play ps3 or x360 games, then don't sell your old consoles.

only the initial 360s. The later ones dropped the feature.

The 360 does it via software, my one is only 3 years old and it still plays Xbox 1 games.
