• Why are DVD (+ or -) R discs versioned?

I happened to notice this leetle print on the inside ring of these Sony DVD+R discs i just bought: DVD+R Ver.1.3/1x - 16x. Does anyone know how you can put version numbers on a DVD? Are they versioning the +R standard, or what?
The +r and -r does not really matter if you are only using it for PC. But if you must, take a look: http://netforbeginners.about.com/cs/multimedia/a/DVD_explained.htm
The +r and -r does not matter if you are only using it for PC.
I understand that, but that's not what I'm asking. I want to know how you can put a version number on a DVD, when it's a couple of plastic circles with a data layer inside. Also, you replied about 15 seconds after I posted that! How?
Funny I just bought Sony +R DVDs last night, and they have that same thing. I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. It might be an internal version for Sony; I believe there are different grades of DVDs.
Yeah, that makes sense. Anyone have Memorex discs? Do they have anything similar?
Nothing on my memorex discs.
Ok, so it's a Sony thing. Cool, now update-obsessive people like me can get buyer's remorse over DVDs too!
My TDK disks have nothing like that either. [editline]01:51AM[/editline] Neither do my Maxell disks.
It's clearly a conspiracy. I don't know how it could possibly be, but it is.
