• Ridiculously loud USB headset, what the hell?

So my old headset was defective, sound was only coming out of the left speaker. I went out, bough a new one. The sound quality is amazing! And it almost completely mutes outside noise, the microphone has no static now but there's one thing... THE STUPID THING IS ALMOST AS LOUD AS MY STEREO SYSTEM! I had to turn it down to 1 in the Windows volume thing, but even then it's too loud. The volume control on the headset just change the Windows volume, and they change like +5 or -5, so it's not precise at all. So is there any kind of volume-scaler, how can I lower the volume of this thing? I've paid $129.99 for it, and I don't want to return it because it sounds beautiful, it's just way too loud! I don't want to void my warranty, so opening the thing is not an option. Any help, Facepunch?
Sell them to some hip new Rock band and buy a new one.

Send it back /get an exchange maybe, the other week at work we had a phone that the microphone was too sensitive... Deafening anyone you talked to on it. Weird things happen. Normally a speaker is too quite, but for some reason this one was too loud.
My microphone was like that too, except it wasn't defective. The boost was just too high. Back to my problem: after searching in google, there's 3 pages of people with the same problem as me. Defective? Almost a 100% sure not. Edit: More people with same issue as me:
Im having a wierd problem. I've got a USB headset, a Logitech ClearChat Pro, and with Vista's tray volume on 1 or 2 the headset is at normal (if not slightly loud) volume. Anything above around 6 is extremely loud. This gives me pretty much no precise control over the volume at all, as movement of only one level (eg upto level 4 from two = one button press on the headset) changes it alot. (The volume control on the headset itself only control Windows' volume) Is there a way I can lower the overall volume scale of Vista so I have more control over the volume of the headphones? Ie a program or something.

I have a USB headset. The sound from it is very loud -- under lowest volume it is off, and the next step up it is already uncomfortably loud. As you can imagine, any higher the volume is simply ridiculous (I can hear the headset on the table like speakers at 100%). Is there any way to remedy this and have 0-100 give a reasonable range of volumes? Currently the headset is a Microsoft LiveChat LX 3000, but I previously had a Logitech USB headset with the same problem. When I run alsamixer, the only available devices are mic (slider), audio gain (toggle -- it's off), and speaker (slider). The speaker slider is what I have been messing with. 0 and 2 are off, 4 is uncomfortably quiet, 6 is uncomfortably loud. It goes up to 100.

Headset: Trust HS-4100 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Headset sounds normal on 2% Volume. 6% is kinda loud. 12% is very loud. So, the scaling is full of fail. Some solutions to this would be nice. Also, the headset was working beautifully on XP where i could put "Wave" to 10% or something. But i cant seem to do that on Win7

I have to reduce -20dB in DAW to get the normal volume. But when I use the other applications, the volume mixer cannot be adjested in Windows XP. Is there any way to solve the problem? Thanks. PS:English is not my native language. Please forgive me if I have made any mistake.

the output is very loud. Even if the level is below about 5%.

Turning the volume down to 1% on the main slider, I get decent volume in some applications while wearing my USB headphones. For example, Windows Media Player is too loud, but when I lower its volume slider to 5%, the sound levels of media playback are acceptable. Windows system sounds (e.g. the beep) are still so uncomfortably loud at 1% main volume that I am forced disable system sounds completely. I do not see any point in jumping out of my chair every time a download completes or the UAC window pops up. Vista Media Center audio playback is unusable for me. When I set its volume slider to 1, even minor background noise is ear-splittingly loud; when I set its volume slider to 0, the sound is too quiet to discern normal conversation.

To prevent my ears from bleeding, I have had to set the volume to the headphones to about 1% on the slider. And even this can be a little to loud at times. Is there a way to force the audio system into using a different volume scale? In XP there was a registry alteration, but that does not appear to work in 7. But if I could convince Windows to understand that this is a headphone set and not a speaker set...I would be very happy.

Their instructions do not include special drivers and use the generic USB Audio drivers. But this is causing the audio to be very loud and I have been forced to put the volume down to 1-2% on the slider to be usable. I believe that the system does not know that these are headphones and is treating them as a standard speaker set. Is there a way to tell the device profile that these are in fact headphones and to use a different audio profile in Windows 7? I am interested in any suggestions and I would like to have my headphones function as intended.

I have the same problem with a trust xalo headset. My headset does have a volume control, but this control only changes the windows volume, so it makes no difference.
