so, i've fiddled with this for a few days and come up with a cheap beast.
ASRock X58 Extreme
Core i7 I7-920 8 MB 2.66ghz
XFX GeForce 260 GTX Black Edition (896 MB) might buy 2 (heard this version outperforms stock 280)
Corsair XMS3 4 x 2 GB DDR3 1333mhz
Hitachi DeskStar 7K1000.B 1 TB
Pioneer DVR 115DBK
Intel WiFi Link 5100 (because i'm comfortable with it)
any possible improvements in the same prizerange?
what PSU would i need to keep this running?
any cool cabinets for few bucks?
mah Budget: 1778,66 subtract 20% since we have weird VAT laws in Denmark (foreign currency FTW)
You can't do a direct conversion from DKK to USD, sadly. I'd go for a Gigabyte P55 mobo, i5 750, 4GB DDR3, and wait a couple days to get a 5850 or 5870 - if you're impatient, get a 4890.
well the magic trick to sli 260 Black edition was that the price for these two would be 2600DKK but a 295 would be 300DKK and benchmarks show that these two fellas are a bit stronger than a 296. what is the average cost of the i5 750?
Are you even planning to buy a new rig within a month??
EDIT. forget about the Geforce 260, and wait for ATI and Nvidia to release their next generation of gfx cards. it's not a long time away.

uhuh, now take those grill gloves off.
how overclockabe is the i5 750?
checked up on the 4890 and the common fact is that it heats up fast... so i may not get that.

It's a serious question, when are you looking at purchasing this build.
Get a 5870.

sorry then, i was way too fast there. 1-3 months.

i'm not too sure i'll have funds for a brand new doublepriced generation... i've only got 10K DKK to throw around.

Then let this thread die, until minimum 2 weeks before you're gonna buy a new rig.
One 5870 will beat two 260s in SLI. Get it.
20% tax damn, that health care best be worth it
look for an i5
health care totally worth it, could be dead now without it.
Also pretty much every danish public service is amazing, (I'm not Danish).

i7 860 is a much better value.
i7 860 is a much better value.
For $90 more it doesn't provide such a significant difference.
I want a x58 :crys:
For $90 more it doesn't provide such a significant difference.
Except for that whole hyperthreading thing the i7 has.
hyperthreading is great but it still can't compete
well i would go with an i5 if i could actually find a nvidia "friendly" motherboard with SLI...
they all only support crossfire, and the one that supports both is doublepriced... i'm pretty much set on SLI 260 black editions, if you doubt my decision the check out their benchmarks and reviews, they beat up a 280 SLI.
i7 860 is a much better value.
I don't have the i5 myself, but tbh, it is just a 860 without HT. Maybe not usually binned as high, duno.
(binning process is essentially (very dumbed down)increasing the volts and frequency until it gets errors. This is why the i5s seem to not OC as far, -lower quality silicon (maybe))
yeah I would go with 2 4890's or 4870's,but really if it were me I would grab a 5870 or 2 5850's

x1
alternately, though it has potential of being a great pain, you could try to make a 9000DKK build from this site:http://www.edbpriser.dk/
using google translate for assistance, but i'm fairly sure this will cause you alot of pain.
my build was 8600DKK including screen. i'll be buying this com sometime in early october.

Yeah until you overclock the 280s :downs:

get 2x 4870 1gb instead
get 2x 4870 1gb instead
if they perform reasonably in high resolutions, i've heard that they dont...
4870 1gb performs great in high resolutions.
But instead of the 2x 4870, get a 5870.
hey here's my "new" com.
- INTEL QUADCORE Q9550, 4x2.83GHZ, 12MB CACHE, 1333MHZ
- Asus P5QL PRO MOTHERBOARD
- 896MB DDR3 GEFORCE GTX260 (2X DIGITAL DVI) (PCIEx16 V2.0)
- 2 x 500 gb 7200RPM, SAMSUNG HDD
- 4GB DDR800 DDR2 RAM, PC6400, KINGSTON,
- 22x SATA DUALLAYER DVDBURNER, +, - OG DVD-RAM
- 750W STØJSVAG POWERSUPPLY, ULTRA SILENT, 17DB
- 10 USB PORTE (2 ER PÅ FRONT)
- 7.1 SURROUNDSOUND LYDKORT
- 10/100/1000MBIT NETKORT
got this thing offered for my laptop and i had to take it.
it's incapable of SLI and i7 without motherboard change, but if i inserted a 285 or 295. how long would you estimate it to play reasonably? (reasonably= play games at 1900x1200 high, medium or med-low settings with 25 fps)? when would a cpu change be advised?
i'm not picky with looks as long as it runs.
