• Best OS For EeePC 900?

Right, so last year I bought an EeePC 900 from someone for around $250. It's in good shape, everything works fine, etc. I decided to start using it again, but it had Xandros on it. I removed it, installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and the thing is slow. I keep reading from other 900 users that Windows XP works great on it. I loaded up XP, took 2 days for the files to copy over, and even longer for the install. Turns out XP runs like shit on it too. It did run Xandros ok, but I HATE Xandros. My question is...what is the best OS to run on such a low-key device? Specs: 900Mhz Intel Celeron Mobile (Same processor as other users who are having "succes.") 1gb DDR2 RAM 4gb SSD I don't really want to dump money into getting a HDD upgrade, so any suggestions on an ultra-lite and ultra-fast OS are greatly appreciated.
I'd just throw chrome on it if you're just planning on casually using it to browse the web, you should get at least 2GB RAM though.
Found out the drive is 8gb, anyway. I don't know, I can't seem to find a reliable build. There is the one by Hexxeh but for some reason it just loads a black screen and nothing happens.
You sure its normal for XP to run like shit on an 900mhz processor? Install Damn Small Linux on it.
Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with the laptop if it takes that long just to install XP Even my pentium 1 shitbox only took the best part of an afternoon to install it. [editline]7th April 2012[/editline] I'd say the HDD/SSD/whatever is fucked.
Debian LXDE.
I got the same computer, slap on a touchscreen and install Android x86, and you got yourself a tablet. Thats what I did Other than that Kubuntu runs good (Unbeliveable enough)
$250 used? You got ripped off, Atom-based netbooks can go for $125-200
If you don't install the chipset/IDE/SATA drivers on modern systems when using Windows XP, performance will be shit because XP is using the bare bones PIO drive access method which is retarded slow and eats mad CPU time.
