sup fp.. Video if you want to watch it instead\as well (Sorry about the grammar and spelling in the vid, my keyboard was breaking and the vegas project did not open up again (so i can edit it). Anyway, I got my lga-1156 stuff last week, and I am surprised. I love every bit of it. . Please If you want anything to be benchmarked, then tell me. I'll gladly do it. I don't do benchmarks very often, as they honestly mean nothing, not everybody has the same memory, motherboard, overclock, and other factors. Here is the test setup CPU: Core i7 860 RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600MHz CAS9 (Don't give me hell about CAS9, please) GPU: Sapphire HD 4770 Mobo: EVGA P55 FTW CPU-HSF: ThermalTake V1 with OCZ Freeze Lets start off with the CPU.. i7 860 I received a SLBJJ S-SPEC (B1), with a VID of 1.18, and FPO/Batch# is L927B308. Right off the bat, I could tell I was going to be in love with this CPU.. Look at how nice she looks! :P Anyway, put her in, and installed windows.. Once booted, i checked the CPU temp. 25c TCase.... 29-31c on the cores.. wow! Load, it goes about 55c...!!! What REALLY surprised me was i took off the heatsink while it was idle... what the **** 46c? LOLWUT. Hmm, wow she runs cool even without a cooler lol! Load? did not test - do not want to lol. I'm sure you all want to hear about how she overclocks.. I set the BCLK to 191, multi to 21 (Hopefully with the coming BIOSes you can use the turbo multis like the i7 920) CPU VCORE to 1.44 boot, and 1.42 final (after memory sizing), VTT (QPI/DRAM) to 1.425 boot, and 1.35 final.. PCH to 1.4 or so, and a few other settings. HT was on. At first thought, i didn't think it POSTed, as it shut off, then it turned back on... went off.. (didn't look like it posted) and then came back on. looked in the BIOS.. Still said 2.8 GHz (stock). Got me real confused, but then i decided to boot. I opened CPU-Z and E-Leet (both use the CPUID SDK actually) and they both said 4GHz. I guess that was the memory sizing, and the CPU clock is set when it starts to boot. So i started prime95 for a few hours and came back (about 11 hours into it) and it was still fine, and was loading @ about 80c. I do have a early screenshot of it. I was very happy i could achieve a 1,200 MHz overclock (1.2 GHz) on my first try. I don't even have any references. From what i know, the CPU Likes when you add: -Vcore -PCH volts -PLL volts -NB strap (i think its called that..) to be high -stable RAM (I mean really solid, wont do anything when its over 1633 MHz, but will under that.) How it compares to the 920 Honestly, the way i see it, the 860 is a Q9650 and the 920 QX9650. The 860 is like a 920, but with dual channel instead of triple, and now has a PCI-E controller onboard. The 920 on the other hand, is marginally faster because it has triple channel, and the QPI speeds can reach up to 7.2 GT/s (7200 MT/s) at a QPI link speed of 3600.. compared to the i7 860 which seems to operate at 4,8 GT/s or 4.27 GT/s according to the motherboard, or if CPU-Z is correct, 6.1 GT/s. Both are overclocked to 4GHz. Essentially, the link between the CPU and the northbridge (QPI) runs faster.. This means more bandwidth on the 920. Basically, the i7 920 has more bandwidth than the 860, but really does not mean much from the way I see, they both preform almost equally. EVGA P55 FTW motherboard the EVGA P55 FTW is a very awesome motherboard. Tons of PCI-E x16 slots, , and PCI slots in between. Great layout, LGA-775 cooler mounting pins, only catch is the cooler will fit at an angle. Not really a problem at all, just more of an aesthetic thing.. who cares if it is in a case? :P The motherboard looks awesome itself, with the black heatsinks, ports, PCI slots and slots. the overclocking section in the BIOS lets you tweak almost anything you wanted to! from the CPU signal, to the PWM MOFSET freqency! The motherboard features two 8-pin CPU power sockets incase you're going for those big records on LN2/DICE/(maybe even water!). HD 4770 Love the look of the back.. front.. eh, looks bear. But Does not matter, it is in my case, right? Pretty fast if you ask me, love the fact that it is 40nm.. I don't have much else to say. Runs most of my games very fluidly. I set the overclocking bars to the top, and it was stable from there... Pretty good if you ask me. Runs very cool.. (40nm, duh). Very good buy, i would recommend it to any average gamer. Was only 100 bucks i think. Does not matter what vendor tbh, all ATI vendors are equally good. ULTRAs 750 WATT PSU I was very disappoint it did NOT come in the lovely bags that corsair sends it in... Anyway, it is quiet, good cable lengths, and seems to be a good quality PSU. Only con i have is that it only has 45 amps on the +12 volt rail (540 watt).. Missed corsair's 62A.. :P Good buy for only 93 bucks. HITACHI 1TB 7200 RPM 3.0 Gb/s HDD Its okay, works nice and fast, detected all 1TB. No cons really. Corsair XMS3 Memory eh, its corsair, nothing really to say! I got a good deal on the CAS9 4GB kit. Thermaltake V1 cooler I was quite doubtful when i bought it, I thought "ugh i could be getting the mugen 2 for this price" but it was not so bad after all. Idled 25c, and loaded @ 75c (average, large/blend p95) More pics Far Cry 2 Benchmarks Optimal settings (all on high\very high i think, 2x anti aliasing) Highest possible settings\ultra high, 8x anti aliasing Was really fun to build this. I love it more than my i7 920 build (gtx 275 x2) Didn't really have a log.. (I am not a copypasta, i meant it to be for both OCN and fp)
why not take out the 2 295GTX's and post them in your p55 build
you mean GTX 275s? I was thinking of doing that to compare if that is what you mean
why's the title i5 build then you use an i7.
I suppose because the 860 is basically an i5 with hyperthreading.
oh shit, my bad. I put it there accidentally because I originally planned to get a i5.. uh excuses. Never mind. [editline]03:57PM[/editline] somebody change it to i7
I bet that in 15 Years FP'ers will search their basement for i7 cores and tell the rest of FP about it. Then sell it at the nerest market for :10bux:
lol Honestly I do not think that processors will get faster, once they reach a certain point, getting the yeilds higher and other silicon problems @ ~22nm and below.. Moores law will probably not follow through. TMSC did have problems even getting to 40nm. I think they are going to get more efficient, and not so much faster. but hey, I don't know the future. Only way to find out is to wait.. right?//// / (pardon any of my \'s in my posts, my keyboard is not working right. )
Yes, they may not be able to get any smaller, but lots more efficient architectures can/will be invented.
lol he changed it
May I ask why you did this "upgrade?"
May I ask why you did this "upgrade?"
Not really an upgrade, i sold some old parts of mine and decided to try out the new gen i7s. Another reason is that i wanted to review it for my website (puregamers.co.uk) [editline]04:52PM[/editline]
intel just released news for 22nm cpu's in 2010
Intel always says stuff like that, although most of the time it is true. [editline]04:53PM[/editline] let me get an example.. [editline]04:54PM[/editline] here http://www.overclock.net/hardware-news/562824-hardware-intel-expects-4nm-2022-a.html read through the pages, I'm not the only person who think that.
I thought it was 32nm, not 22 nm.
I thought it was 32nm, not 22 nm.
Transistors are so small these days, i can remember my graphics card having 110 nm transistors.
OH MAN! i7, p55 FTW sexy mobo and.... a 4770? wat (are you waiting for 5870s or something?)
Pretty much.
intel just released news for 22nm cpu's in 2010
You mean 32, right?
Good build, I like it

nice but i think it's a bit of a waste of money buying another machine when you already have a 1366 i7
Not really an upgrade, i sold some old parts of mine and decided to try out the new gen i7s. Another reason is that i wanted to review it for my website (puregamers.co.uk)
Howdy, ArmedXForce FoX!
Yeah, don't mind my trolling alt (armedxforce) prismastex, we already talked about it on overclock.net
:smug: That said, this looks like a nice rig. Can't wait to see how these overclock.
I got mine to 6 before it exploded sending heatsink shrapnel flying everywhere. I adjusted to having one eye quite quickly. what, box? it's an old joke, give me clocks at least.
thanks, apparently, according to OCN, I have a "golden chip". on the IHS it has a number "200" which means its in the middle of the batch.. they say they are the best.. duno, I will have to find out how far over 4GHz she will push. [editline]08:45PM[/editline] brb, I'm going to snatch a CPU-Z validation for 4, and then ill /push her higher (without HT just to keep the temps down and go further) [editline]08:47PM[/editline] 4.2!!
You mean 32, right?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/22/intel-announces-22nm-chips-for-2011/ no 22nm
i guess B1 is like nehalem's c0 revision? that vcore is high i don't know about your 1366 i7, but i run mine at 4.0ghz 1.3v vcore with ht enabled at ~40c idle
Excuse me, but did you say you took the heatsink off while the computer was on?
