Not this one in particular, but usb 3.0 express cards in general 2. is there any way if this thing will actually fit in my express card slot? Never tried putting anything in there.
The problem is that USB 3.0 is more than double the speed of the ExpressCard 1.2 slot 625 MB/s USB3 vs 250 MB/s Express Card 1.2) and that EC seems to have two USB 3.0 ports, which would cripple any USB 3.0 device, even more so if two devices are used at the same time. Express Card 2.0 raises the maximum bus transfer rate to the same as USB 3.0, but it would still be woefully inadequate to support two USB 3.0 devices at normal operating speed. And I'm not sure how many devices have the EC 2.0 spec as it was only ratified in 2009 and takes awhile to get to market in numbers. But if you have an EC card slot, it will work, just not anywhere near full speed capability.
Well I just got it last year so I think it might have it. I don't know what to make of that

Nope, it's PCIe 1.1, If it were 2.0, it'd be 5000 Mbits, not 2500.
What laptop is this? If you have firewire, it would probably be a better choice to get a firewire HDD.
I'd personally get an eSATA ExpressCard if they made one, so you don't have to convert bus formats as many times, increasing speed. Though you'd have to find an external drive that supported it.
