Never heard of Sleeping Dogs (but then I haven't been keeping up really), but a publisher avoiding crappy outsourced console ports is always nice!
I gave the demo a try and I'm actually fucking impressed by the game. The combat made me feel like a badass and the graphics were really fucking nice, not to mention it seems really well optimized. Gonna have to pick up the game at some point when it's on sale, it's a shame the demo had no driving or anything, would have liked to give that a go.
Going from the article, Square Enix pretty much made sure we got the proper PC port. Activision was about to outsource it. Wow.
Say what you want about Square Enix, but they aren't stupid. So very far from it.

The pc versions of recent games published by Square Enix have been REALLY good. I mean, this, Deus Ex HR and JC2 have been incredibly good on the PC. It'a nice to see that major publishers other than Valve still care about the PC as a gaming platform.

i agree im running this on my nvidia geforce 9600 GT at medium-high with the res pack ON at 30 fps flawlesss just love it
Sleeping Dogs is really fucking good. I'm about to beat it, and it will literally be the first game I've beaten start to finish in almost a year.
i agree im running this on my nvidia geforce 9600 GT at medium-high with the res pack ON at 30 fps flawlesss just love it
woah that's pretty kickass
More games should have demos... there was a time when pretty much every single game had a demo so people could try it. Now the only option people have to try before they buy is to pirate it.
Good for Germany. Are they robots in Sleeping Dogs, or maybe mutants with green blood in Germany?
Good for Germany. Are they robots in Sleeping Dogs, or maybe mutants with green blood in Germany?
what :v:
I don't understand how people are saying this is a good PC port. You have to navigate the menus by keyboard, you need both hands on the keyboard if you want to use the phone while walking or driving, getting in a vehicle is right click and you can't change it to E or F because they're both used for combat, and the keys are bundled together, made up example Space = Jump/Sprint/Punch and you can't bind them separately [editline]23rd August 2012[/editline] Oh and it has really bad mouse support where the camera follows the direction, but not necessarily the speed of your mouse movement. I just don't understand where there is anything that could be considered good?
Sleeping Dogs wasn't on my buying list for this year but when I saw a trailer or two for it I thought I should preorder. Although I haven't finished it yet, it's really fun and one of the few open world games where I try to do almost everything you can do. It's like Grand Theft Auto with an Arkham City combat system.

downloading
Bad controls =/= bad port
but people were saying exactly that for From Dust :(
but people were saying exactly that for From Dust :(
That was alongside the locked frame rate, locked 720p resolution, very few game settings, and bad performance, none of which are a problem in Sleeping Dogs.
Bad controls =/= bad port
Bad controls are a part of a bad port though
Bad controls are a part of a bad port though
So you'd rather they spend a year rewriting code just to fix every nook and cranny before shipping it off? There are things called 'patches' and 'fixes', y'know. And if it's that annoying, buy a compatible controller for as little money as you can. I've found third-person games can sometimes be less suited to the keyboard and mouse than a controller.
Bad controls are a part of a bad port though
It was made with consoles in mind in the first place, so it's to be expected that the controls are made for them. Besides, controllers don't even cost that much, bought one myself for cases such as this.
Jesus stop bitching about the standart controls of the game. You can change them all so no need to complain about it.

Everything else about the game is fantastic on PC, which is nice for a change. Personally I played with a controller and a wireless receiver on PC. I tried keyboard + mouse briefly but it didn't feel right so I stuck with the controller. There's not real need for the precision a mouse provides and wasd just isn't as good as analog sticks for a third person game, in my opinion. To be honest I think those who haven't already should pick up a controller + wireless receiver. Not only for Sleeping Dogs, but they greatly improve a lot of games (driving games, games like Assassin's Creed, the Batman games, GTAIV (and V when it comes out, if it comes out of PC that is), Saints Row 3 etc.), the analog sticks and triggers and undeniably a lot better for a lot of the gameplay present in these kind of games. Plus is situations like this, where the keyboard + mouse controls are a nightmare, having the controller to fall back on is nice anyway. Edit: While I was typing this post others have pretty much the same thing is less words, so w/e, buy a controller.
Console demo pls
That was alongside the locked frame rate, locked 720p resolution, very few game settings, and bad performance, none of which are a problem in Sleeping Dogs.
1) game settings aren't necessary to enjoy a game 2) i'm almost completely sureresolution isn't locked to 720p 3) the performance was completely normal on an old computer of mine

Seems a bit dumb to me. But who the fuck plays third person games with a keyboard and mouse, seriously it's horrible especially when you're driving vehicles. The only game I managed to play with keyboard and mouse was Max Payne 3, and that's only because the controls for that game were really polished.
Played the demo last night, camera and on-foot controls were pretty bad but the rest was fun. I'll pick it up on a sale.
