With Christmas coming up (and it being black friday if you're reading this the day I post it) I have some extra cash that I want to use to upgrade my mediocre computer to actually be able to play modern games at a playable FPS. My current specs are: Yes I know it's not great, that's why I'm looking to upgrade. The price of the parts shouldn't be too expensive (I'm not looking for something that can max out every game on high, just one that can play newer games well.) If you need any more information just ask, also sorry if I seem really bad at this (which I am when it comes to computers.) Thanks in advance.
Budget, currency, ect.
$300
what case and power supply do you have
what's your PSU [editline]wef[/editline] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031&cm_mmc=BFUS-_-58-_-N82E16817171031&nm_mc=BFUS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131327&cm_re=5770-_-14-131-327-_-Product (this should fit in almost all computer cases) I would tell you to add 2GB more RAM but it's a ripoff since 2GB DDR2 costs the same as 4GB DDR3, but up to you Also try to overclock you CPU if you can
If your power supply is sufficient, all you'll need to buy is a decent video card and you'll be able to play games fine. Less important upgrades for your budget are the CPU (something with a higher clock speed and/or more cores) and RAM (shouldn't need more than 4GB).
I'm thinking http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103644&cm_re=phenom_ii_940-_-19-103-644-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&cm_re=hyper_212%2b-_-35-103-065-_-Product and depending on what his case and PSU are maybe a 4850 or higher
I think that cooler might be overkill. He could either continue using the one he has if the temperatures are fine, or get something a little smaller than that. I mean holy shit look at how big it is in the installation video.
I can't tell what my PSU is but I know I definitely need a new one considering i've had my current one for a few years.
if you don't know how to check, it should be on a sticker on the side of the PSU itself at either the top or the bottom of your case
Is this a pre-built?
