With some games, when I launch them, my monitor reports them as "Out of Range" despite me never having edited a single in-game option. In fact, it does this before I go to the main menu.
It does this on WoW (Fixed by running in Windowed mode, but I hate the border.), STALKER CoP (I can get to the main menu, but it does this when I load a save) BFBC2 and the Sims 3.
My monitor is 1400x1050 (or something like that) and I have an ATI Radeon 4850.
This used to not happen but it started about a month ago. I think this might either be an issue with my graphics card drivers (I'll rollback to older drivers soon) Or my graphics card itself.
Also, when this happens, I have to restart my computer. Alt-tabbing or pressing control+alt+delete doesn't work at all.
It's probably because the resolution is set too high on the game.
I doubt games would have their default resolution that high.
And with many of these games, I can edit a file to change the resolution for a single session, but the next time I start it, it does this again.

It's pretty easy to edit a config file for WoW, I had to do it when my sister's LCD was "Out of Range".
It could also be that it's trying to force a refresh rate too high.
If there's an "Auto" button on your monitor, try pressing that.
I'm gamerkiwi's older brother.

The problem is that I've changed the resolution settings for Sims 3 many times but it still does that problem. My mom said it worked fine for one of my sister's friends, but I've never had it work for me, even after changing the settings.
It also does it very randomly for WoW. I've tried, had it shit, then restarted the computer like 3 times before it worked yesterday. Sometimes it wants to work, sometimes it doesn't, which is extremely odd.

I tried that when I started WoW and the computer shut off.
Wait, what?
That makes no sense.
If you're overclocking, or going outside the monitors refresh rates, this will be to blame. I suggest looking into those issues and make sure you're within recommended refresh rates (in Hz) of your monitor.

The settings on the games are at 60. The monitor is 59-60 I believe(those are the settings my monitor provides).
The refresh rate would change on different resolutions IIRC.

Well duh, owmost all screens are capable of running 800x600 at 75Hz, but everything above 1280x1024 is 60Hz for the average screen.

OP, check if your screen has any drivers avalible, as the games may not be able to recognize your screen resolution, and thus uses a too large or unknown one (unknown to your screen)

Always depending on your monitor. Its best to use the EDID to determine the resolution and refresh rates for that resolution.

Device manager says that the drivers are up to date. The only other driver is "generic pnp monitor"(it's set to "generic non-pnp monitor" right now).
Solution: Don't play WoW.

WoW is a fun game and I like it. Plus Tropico 3, Sims 3, and BFBC2 don't work either.

Just do it.

Wait so the computer turned tself off when you pressed auto on the monitor? Why the hell would it do that?

I have no idea. It said "out of range" I pressed the button, and the computer restarted.
That makes 0 sense. All I can guess is that maybe by pressing auto it's confusing your video card which causes the card to pull too much power from the PSU, causing a restart. Even that's a long shot.
So could the whole thing be the card instead of settings?
