Hi,
My First Build Just got the Intel Core i7 Processor for it which is the final component it needs to be able to turn on.
When I started up the Computer, It ran making a quick clanking sound (a fan rubbing against a bundle of wires no big deal) and the fans lit up with life. You can hear the warning beep from the motherboard that there's no ram. 2 mere seconds later smoke started rising out of the fans at the top and I immediately unplugged the computer scared to death. What is wrong with my computer?
This is the Build

[1] I'm using the Gigabyte Cables that came with the motherboard to connect the Non SATA cables (IDE I think) to the Old CD Drives,
[2] I'm using the Heatsink that came with the intel I7.
[3] I think it may have something to do with the IDE cable.
[4] The other Old Hard Drive does not smell burnt but then again there was no IDE plugged in, just a power IDE thing.
[5] I did use Many of those power splitters to power 3 of the fans.
[6] There is no RAM, HD, or GFX card yet.
Please help this computer is expensive.
Are you sure the PSU isn't busted. I'd start troubleshooting parts by putting them one by one into another computer until you find the broken piece(s). Once you find the busted part RMA it and play dumb if they ask you about it.

Banana FrieNd turned into Banana Fried.
Looks like your PSU could of fried.
It was my fault,

This makes sense because the cd drives are right above the floppy drive. This likely couldn't have damaged the mb or processor because it wasn't connected by ide or usb yet. but should i suspect the psu to have damage? is it safe to plug in the computer and start it up again? How should I remove the floppy power from the motherboard? Is the floppy still usable?

:ohdear:
My god, are you crazy?!
How could you do such a thing!
The PSU probably will have damage, and I recommend NOT to start it up again.
The Floppy disc slow was in a cabin under the already installed CD Drives with the wires already attached to the cd drives, I was installing the floppy power cord in the dark blindly, until it caught what seemed like the slot and to be a good fit, Stupid move, learn from my mistake.
Anyway, what should I do? RMA the power supply? Or perhaps a second opinion?
To be safe I would.
Well if the psu is dead, (which it might not even be) Would it have killed the mb, processor, cd drives, or hdd? (or fans :O)
Not really. My PSU fried twice, once on my old motherboard, and once one my current one. All I did was replace the PSU and everything was fine.
You wired a +12v connector to what is supposed to be the ground on the floppy. The floppy is busted anyway, And it is very possible your PSU too.
WOAH WOAH WTF
Look at OP'S post again everyone. Carefully.

... So?
... So?
You can start a computer without a hard drive, GPU, and RAM?
You can start a computer without a hard drive, GPU, and RAM?
Yes. I easily used to do this on my old office computer. the motherboard simply makes a long beep to notify the ram is gone.
No onboard GFX either, just wanted to see it run. Backfired. So the PSU i got was the highest rated best combo of price, quality, and cords. 100% 5 stars. Does that change anything? The fans lit up and ran like they were susposed to.
Also was able to remove the floppy power cord from the floppy itself withoutany extra damage.
And another note: the computer was attepted to run twice befor the processor was applied with the cable applied the same way. despite the 2 second run time before the mb turned off the psu cus the processor was missing, the fans ran for the short time. some fans being powered the same way the floppy was. so very short power to the floppy twice before this. psu presisted until now. maybe it still works?
The PSU should still work, most good quality PSU's can withstand a short circuit, although I think it was only a partial short since most PSU I've seen shut off when shorted.
So what do I do?? :ohdear: the whole smoke thing really shook me up.
Also Noticed very slight damage where the burned wires touched other wires

It dosen't feel like it burned down to the wire but just letting you know facepunch just in case.
I'd remove the burnt wires and test all the components individually. Test the PSU and if the PSU is busted, RMA it. They might not accept the RMA due to physical damage but it's worth a shot. I don't think it would damage the other components but check them all to be sure.
How would I test the motherboard? I do have an old psu that outputs 145w. How would I test the psu? old motherboard?
Paperclip trick, give me a second I'll give you a pic.

Well shit, just google "Paperclip PSU trick."
The thing is, I don't want to do something like that it seems not very safe. But my power supply box says it has SCP (short circut Protection) as well as OPP and OVP.
What would happen if i plugged in a broken psu into my motherboard and processor and powered it on?
It is safe. Its not going to explode. All it does is fool the PSU into powering on by making it think its plugged into the motherboard when its not.
1. RMA the PSU period, especially if it's not a single rail.
2. You have no business looking for beep codes without diagnostics. Unless you have a diagnostic daughterboard, you have no business booting up until you have necessary components installed.
3. RTFM
4. RTFM
5. Never install anything without being connected solid and grounded without adequate light... ever.
6. RTFM.
