So I've decided to get into PC building, but wanted to upgrade an old computer to practice before I started spending money. For this project, I've set myself two goals: 1. Not spend a penny (so for clarity's sake my budget is £0). 2. End up with something that will run TF2 (on whatever settings, but at more than 20fps). What I currently have: 256MB DDR RAM Intel IGP 64MB 1.8 GHz processor 60GB SATA Hard-Drive The current specs (stuff that will be upgraded/added to): 1GB DDR RAM 2.4 GHz processor 2.1 GB Fujitsu SATA Hard-Drive (this is merely to practice slaving/piggybacking) And I have two cards to choose from: nVidia FX5200 128MB ATi Radeon 9600SE 128MB So I have 2 questions, Facepunch: 1. Considering I haven't actually bought anything, what are your thoughts on this build? 2. Which would be the best GPU to use? (Both are AGP and work with my motherboard.) I'm going to be fitting all this stuff in the next week, based on your thoughts/advice. Thanks in advance.
Should run TF2 on moderate settings. Edited: DDR... good luck.
The ATi Radeon 9600SE 128MB is better.
In what way? Generally better performance, more effecient, handles certain rendering typed better, what?
What's the model of the CPU you're going to be upgrading to?
Not sure at the moment. A friend told me he had one but didn't say what make.
