Thank fuck. Memory limitations were a huge hassle for modders that want to add a shitload of objects and 4K textures.

the next big thing is going to be 16k textures now!

I really hope we get a mod that shows everything in it's non-LOD mesh / textures. Full detail all the time. What's an LOD?

Because super high resolution textures on lower poly models and tons of clutter is fantastic.

While I agree that 4k textures on pointless clutter is dumb as hell, 4k textures is a benefit to SOME models like armor and world textures (trees, rocks, grass, ect). Tons of these models are stretched to stupid amounts of levels (we're talking 1024x1024 textures being stretched on surface areas that would be better for 4096x4096 textures.).
I really would like to know if they fixed the large world bug in the new engine. In case you don't know, currently you can't have a worldspace larger than 64 cells across since outside that boundary collisions go haywire, activators are unusable, and magic and ranged combat no longer work.

Pfft, installing the unofficial patch crashes my game without the memory patch.
i'm just not sure i want to spend another 60$ on this game just for some mods

its free if you already have skyrim legendary edition

If you own Skyrim and all its DLCs on Steam you'll get the special edition for free on release.

Or the base game with all the DLC
I hope they'll learn from last time and FO4 to fix the problems that happen when the game runs at higher framerates than 60fps. Skyrim had horrific physics glitches and FO4 actually has the game speed tied to framerate. It's annoying that I spent nearly $400 on a 144hz monitor to play my favorite games, which includes FO4 and Skyrim, and they don't work with it.
Guess I'll have to buy hearthfire now :v:
Good thing the summer sale is coming up
This could also get some new life into the Skyrim modding scene, its been a little stale lately.
Oh, so I can simply upgrade for 25$ from what I already own...
Do I get Special Edition for free if I upgrade after it releases, or only if I upgrade before? I'm not buying DLC I don't care about to unlock mods that don't exist yet.

They have not said about what happens after release.
Summer sale is soon, that $25 will probably drop a bit.

I had this happen to me in Fallout 4, after I disabled the invisible walls and explored as far as i could before falling through the world.
What happened to Bethesda's insistence that 32-bit was more than adequate? I'm not dropping money for something that should have been included to begin with and wasn't out of simple laziness.

also bread apparently needs to be in 4k because why not or something

How high must your resolution be, your antisotropic filtering and mipmapping be set for 16k textures not to look like film grain as you move

tbh the funny thing is the people who would use 16k textures are more likely to be running their game at 1080p than anything else
and also have it on a triple titan x set up because why not (even though Skyrim doesn't really support SLI that well I believe)
"just because you can do something doesn't mean you should" is a motto that skyrim modders cannot comprehend
why are you guys whining about some people wanting to up their textures
i don't know how i'd live without my cheese improvement mod

I'll burn your house down! With combustible video cards and 4k textures!

4k random object textures is probably less system intensive than 4k environment textures, and for some reason things like spoons and cups in games like these look like they are from 2002.
I'm not well informed in this matter, but achieving 64-bit compatibility isn't really a milestone? I thought that was one of the most basic foundations in game development, especially for a large studio like this. I don't know, maybe it is difficult or not, but if I'm right; it feels pretty pathetic and depressing.
