By not fucking lying.
Making an actual reason as to why things exist, and not just make a bunch of empty soulless worlds.
This article is actually about a completely different game which seems really cool and interesting that I'm not going to buy because I don't like MMOs. There was no reason they had to make the title about No Man's Sky except for clicks.
Making an actual reason as to why things exist, and not just make a bunch of empty soulless worlds.
Real answer here. The honest problem with no man's sky and so many other sandbox games in general is they put all of their effort into level design, and none of it into gameplay design. In order to make a sandbox interesting there has to be engaging things to do in it, and especially in the case of a procedural sandbox you have to put an enormous amount of thought into how to create gameplay that will interest the user when it's all randomly generated. Nobody is really doing doing this well, and the extent of gameplay design typically seems to be "let them shoot randomly spawned creatures and collect resources"
Make the randomly generated worlds a side feature, and not the main pull of the game.
Dont make it the same rehashed survival/crafting shit we've been getting for years in literally every goddamn genre, where the only defining feature is vague setting elements that quickly become irrelevant in repeating the same processes between games. "Ohh no, there are wolves/zombies/aliens/bandits! I need to craft a weapon to beat the shit out of them, then craft rags/bandages/laser bandaids to heal up, then cook the meat of those things I killed and eat just as the next batch is showing up, then craft another weapon because the previous one broke after the fourth swing."
a title like "How do you build a massively ambitious fantasy game in a post-witcher 3 world?" would make sense tbh But no mans sky? are you fucking serious lmao

Dual universe looks like it could be really cool, especially with the Lua scripting that people can use to make ai
put more emphasis on the space part, don't leave it as a fancy loading screen

X3 Terran Conflict with Albion Prelude and a few mods, like Rebalanced, is 10 times the space game that NMS will ever be, and it's still one of the top in the genre. Once you learn to navigate the very meh UI, learn the hotkeys so you don't have to click any, it becomes great How can you not like having a galaxy free to explore, fight, trade and build an empire in. Starting from one stupid ship and expanding to fleets of ships all trading/escorting/fighting for/with you and you building massive complexes that produce goods for them to trade out. Managing a carrier with 60 fighters, missile cruisers, frigates, battleships, all warping into a Xenon sector for a 2 hour battle, then building your own hub after claiming the sector as your own. Not to mention it has beautiful soothing music
Not a popular opinion but I believe what gameplay that E:D has is phenomenal. And planetary exploration came AFTER the gameplay happened.
Dual Universe looks like it will either set new industry standards like EVE did or fail miserably. Obviously when someone promises you a ton of shit no game has ever been able to do all together before than you should be a bit skeptical. But hey I hope they're able to make the game just like they say they want to, I'd fuckin play it. Not that we'll know anytime soon anyways. Looks like they're not expecting a full release for a couple more years, and yet that will still probably be faster than Star Citizen.

I used the hub to connect basically the capitol system of each race. Led to some glorious fighting as warring races were suddenly right on each other's doorsteps. Also commandeering your first M1 or M2 class ship is absolutely glorious. Trying to make sure your boarding crew isn't shot down, keeping the shields low so they aren't fried, but not damaging the ship in the process, hoping to god that your hackers stay alive to hack into the ship's master computer and transfer control. All while making sure your ship(s) aren't blown apart by the target or any reinforcements. Also funny seeing Xenon ships deciding to "bail" every now and then. I never did make the HQ, but would've loved to reverse engineer xenon and Kha'ak ships and build them.
