So are all these laser pointing things just some idiots pointing lasers at the aircraft? I've seen some helicopter footage of it happening once but I didn't think it's that serious

Watch me hit it from my porch!" Or as mentioned, using it maliciously to keep aircraft out of an area. I seem to recall the crowds used them heavily during the Ukraine incident the other year. You'd have a half dozen or more lasers painting a helicopter or something. It's typically hard to track where it came from but oh man you don't wanna get caught.

I also imagine it would mess up your dark vision. Theirs a good reason why cockpits are dark and usually only illuminated by red light and LCD screens
