Hey guys, I recently came into my possession a Dell Inspiron 2650. Specs: Windows XP Professional Intel Pentium 4 Mobile 1.60 GHz 512 MB Ram Nvidia GeForce2 Go 20 GB Hard drive What do you think I should do to it? I'm still unsure if I should change the operating system to linux. I want to learn/use it, but I still want to use the ol' XP. Maybe a dual-boot? Throw out any suggestions!
the best upgrade for that is the pointy end of a hammer on the screen, so it has more ventilation, then you can OC it
It's fine as a notebook, I'd say keep it, maybe one day one of your friends or family will go all "Damn I wish I had a notebook" and then you can go "Oh is that so? I've got an old one you can have"
Sell it.
Put linux on it and use it to surf the internet.

windows 7 should work fine
Put all your documents on an external drive and just reformat it with linux.
Make it into a nas, for 20gb of shit
Use it as a another monitor
Is there a free app that does this? I'd rather not pay 40 dollars.
Put linux on it and use it to surf the internet.
This. Go with Ubuntu if you're new. It's pretty simple and has a huge userbase that can help with any problems you may have.

But I think xubuntu would be a better option. So OP knows, xubuntu is pretty much exactly the same but it is lighter and faster.
Yes: http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
I want to kiss you. [editline]07:12PM[/editline] No homo.

If it runs slow, then I will switch to a different os. The time I had to wait to get to the actual installation of ubuntu was over an hour.
Yes: http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
I am pretty sure it doesn't do what maxivista does:
Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware.
http://www.tezzanator.net/stuff/warp.gif
Use it for old games. Emulator's and 90's games.
Turn it into a sort of superghetto blade server. Or give it to me.
sell it to me
sell it to me
No, you need more ram
