Screen going black for a second, then changes back. Also GPU overheating (with 2 different GPUs!)

Hello, so yeah I wanted to just go ahead and make an entire new thread to explain the situation of my PC better and see if anyone can come up with anything. Mostly as for what's actually wrong.
First, the specs:
MOBO: ASRock P67 Extreme4
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k
OP: Win7 HE
PSU: Corsair AX 750W
GPU: Radeon HD 6970
Then, the problem:
The graphic card overheats, and the screen goes black for a second or so, then goes back. Before this HD 6970, I had GTX 570, which also had the same problem and the card eventually died.
So, what in the hell could be the problem? If the problem was neither the GTX 570 which is dead by now, or this HD 6970 which is also overheating right now, then it's PSU or MOBO or SOMETHING that is causing these GPU's to overheat, and the screen to go black in stress.
Also my screen is DELL UltraSharp-something 23" which seems to be in good condition aside from all this other bullshit. So please, somebody make sense out of this senselessness. :(

I'm using CPUID to check temps, and maybe it might have something to do with voltages too, but the GPU goes from about 45c idle up to 76c load.
I know it sounds dumb considering you have the heat problems, but do you have any other monitors laying around to see if it does the same thing with them?
I had an LCD that would cut black and go back to normal every once in a while.
Could it be that the monitor is overheating the graphics card?
Or could the heat problems in 2 different GPU's come from either MOBO or PSU? Because It seems like for some reason this PC is a death trap for any graphics card, but no idea why..
But I have another monitor lying around, and I have tested it briefly sometime ago, but will do it again probably.
Edit. Okay, I tried another older screen (mot CRT but still), and the screen-going-black-for-a-second did not happen again when I ran some games.
But the graphics card still goes alarmingly hot, from 40c idle up to 90c in load. It is pretty much completely dusted out, and all the fans are spinning.
Also, the black-screen bug did not happen on the newer and better monitor either when it was connected to an older PC which also ran some games, so.. Idk.

You need to take your graphics card's out and give them a good dusting, afterwards open the case to them and investigate the thermal paste situation going on with them.
If the paste looks hardened and overall not pasty looking; then you need to re-apply some fresh thermal paste over them. AFTER you removed the old thermal paste.
Uhh, the graphics card is brand new, just so you know. There is no dust left to dust out.
As for thermal paste, I have never applied that on graphics cards, and probably won't.
Are you suggesting me to do that? To open up the graphics card as well?
If it's brand new, you'll just void your warranty, so it's probably not a good idea.

it's the replacement GPU I got for the busted 570 which had warranty, so..
It Should still be covered, if its not working just return it again.

but it is working, same as the 570.
Ah. Check to make sure nothing is blocking the Airflow in your case. Make sure your fans are all pointing in the right direction, etc.
I bought my case off craigslist and found one of the front intake fans was pointed out instead of in. :downs:

76c isn't bad, 90c I would say is right at the upper limit.

Check the output settings for your GPU( is it a 570 or is it the AMD card?) Maybe something just isn't agreeing with the monitor?
Apparently 90c is absolutely fine and within the limits of the card.

it's the AMD's 6970.
But right now the problem is also that, the NVIDIA drivers were still on this PC when I put the 6970 in, and installed drivers for it.
So, they are conflicting with each other somehow, even though I have manually (AND with Driver Sweeper Shitware) removed everything NVIDIA-related that I possibly can, but Win7 Aero-features are not working. And games are not even launching.
Shit. Maybe you need to resort to a clean install of Windows. :P
Nah actually, I reinstalled the AMD drivers and my Aero-shit color theme is back.
So that's fixed, no need to clean reinstall the whole computer and Windows.
Anyway, so this 6970 is supposed to heat up like that? That's.. interesting.
76c is fine
