Okay guys, I have got two options, I'm buying one of these two laptops,
Np 9280
Graphics Card
*nVidia GeForce GTX 280M Video/Graphics Card w/1GB (1024MB) Memory (User Upgradeable!)
*6GB (6144MB) DDR3 1066MHz SDRAM Triple Channel Memory | 3 SODIMMs
Processor
Intel Core i7-920 Quad (Nehalem) | 2.66GHz | 8MB L3 Cache, 4.8GT/sec QPI | 130W, LGA 1366
Annd this guy NP9850
Graphics Card
*2X DUAL SLI nVidia GeForce GTX 280M Video/Graphics Card w/1GB (1024MB + 1024MB) Memory
*Intel® Core 2 Quad™ Q9000 | 6MB Shared L2 Cache | 2.00GHz | 1,066MHz FSB
and also 4 gigs of ram.
Now, one has an awesome sli of two video cards which I believe makes it worth it, but the CPU definatley isn't as good as the i7 quad cores on the other. The sli 280s seem kinda overkill, but so does the nahalem i7 cpus.. So mainly for gaming, which one would be better? The one with the overkill CPU or GPU?
And note that I know that these are both laptops and please don't flame me for it fp, I travel back n forth between counrties and can't take a pc rig with me constantly between countries.
9280 cause you can upgrade
Thanks.. That factor actually does make a big difference.. Also, I know both are prone to the inevitable heating that most high end laptops have, but which do you think will be more effected, the sli 280m gtx one or the one carrying a desktop i7 quad CPU?

Also the 9850 is an inch bigger, does that affect heating at all?
Matters what you do with the computer for which one you get, but for reference the mobile gtx 280 is a minor underclock of the 9800 gtx+ supposedly.
Yeah that's what I've read online too, would be better to have two of those and a quad or just one with an i7, 'cause if they are pretty much the same then I would probably go for 9850, because it looks a loooot nicer than the 9280, I would post images of both of them, but I'm on my iPhone and my older laptops harddrive exploded/cracked/overheated or something, which is why I'm in search for a new one, but I need to know their stats on overheating, so far haven't read anything about them really burning out on forums yet.
Alright guys, thanks for your input, I think I've made up my mind that the 9280 would be better. Better CPU will last me longer and the changeable gpu will do the same. performance wise, it's benchmarked beastly, so I think this is the winner.. :D gonna order it after tommorrow when I'm done designing the laptops backside skin :D
Good choice, since the 9280 works on a calpella platform it has MXM 3.0b whihc is more future-proof than the 2.0 of the other one.
This means you can change the GFX card later on to something like a 380M
:science:
Damn a 130w processor in a laptop. expect battery life in the seconds.
Yeah, only 120 mins of Just browsing/surfing with this 12 cell lithium battery lol.. But just read up on it having one of the best cooling systems though, so I'm still pumped to get this
You should try and see if there's a better battery then. It would suck only being able to use your computer for 2 hour runs between charges.

I've been using mine on a 1.5hr stint for a year or two now.

Yeah.. I might get abetted battery down the road sometime, it's just that this is pretty much a desktop replacement that I might end up taking with me to classes. And I think I could probably just restrict CPU usage when I'm out with it.. But usually you're not supposed to play games when not plugged in on a gaming laptop.
alright so now i'm getting too torn apart between these two asshole computers..
just look at the 9850

in comparison to 9280

now i know that looks aren't as important as performance, but common, just look at that. The only advantage i'll have for my laptop looking like that would be if i left it in the middle of the sidewalk no one would steal it thinking its a piece of junk from 1999.
also started reading up on how the 9850 has a lot better cooling system than the 9280s, and the cpu is highly overclockable.
I think I am now leaning towards the 9850, but before I actually make this choice, can someone explain to me why I would really need an i7 quad nahalem desktop cpu as opposed to the normal quad core 2 laptop cpu? Would there be that big of a difference if i didn't have it or what.
I really need to make sure i'm spending my money correctly here.(inb4wittyjokeaboutbuyingapc)
thanks again.
