Hello Facepunch, Well see I built a new computer today and got everything hooked up. Power and all. When we pushed the power button the CPU fan started for a few seconds then shut down. We tried rebooting again and it would't run at all anymore. Do you think the motherboard was fried? The power supply worked on another computer just fine so we knew it wasn't that. The reviews on the motherboard said it is good to have a 500w power supply, but not sure if I need that. Any suggestions on how to fix it or what we might have done wrong? Or should we return the motherboard and get a new one. Any lights? Sounds? Try re-seating the CPU. Wiggle some cables, make sure they are all in properly. Remove all unnecessary devices, RAM,GPU,HDD, etc... leave only mobo and cpu. Nothing? Check for shorts, take mobo out of case and lay on cardboard box, boot like that. Still no good? If you get no lights at all or sound from mobo then it sounds like its dead.
What PSU do you have
A dell OEM one. worked fine with my other computer i tested it when the motherboard stopped working after like half a second.

oh duh. Sorry. im on a cell phone right now i can check the other later cause i do know it has 305w max
Did you use stand-offs?
Well the motherboard tray already had lifted little screw holes and with them on there that and the ports didn't line up right. Would that have been the problem?
the screw holes are for putting standoffs in take the mobo out, put the standoffs in and pray to Blind Io that you didn't fry your MoBo

I would use a guide different than you used to put it together http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/video_how_build_pc_ever_step_explained
I did pretty much exactly that, but our problem is it has little bumps to screw in the motherboard like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811164114 and with the standoffs in it, it doesn't fit right.
just get some of the standoffs seated they all don't have to be screwed in hell my mobois secured by 2 screws
what year of dell was it from? i hope it wasn't 1998-2000 or up to some '02's because they had non standard ATX pinouts. in turn could cause damage to your motherboard. if it was than your mobo is toast. "hope it wasn't"
