Alright so I have 2 processors but I'm confused about them.... I have a
Intel Pentium 4 cpu 3.00ghz (2 cpus) Which I guess is not actually dual core? And a
Intel Pentium D Cpu 2.80ghz (2 cpus) Which says it is dual core ?
So I would think that the pentium D is better but I have no idea I'm really confused about this haha... Some help would be appreciated.
The latter
So the Pentium D?
Yes
The Pentium 4 has Hyper Threading (HT) which turns the one physical core into two virtual cores to take better advantage of the extremely long pipeline of the netburst architecture. To put it in simple terms, HT splits the CPU power in half between the two virtual cores, so it would be like having a two 1.5 GHz processors instead of a single 3 GHz CPU. The Pentium 4 will perform better in single threaded applications like older games if you disable HT.
The Pentium D isn't a true dual core design, it's basically two Pentium 4s with HT disabled on the same processor package, but it's still two cores nonetheless. It will perform slightly worse from the -200 MHz core speeds in single threaded applications, but overall perform better since other applications can run on the other core and not have to share processor time with a high CPU use application like a game.
