Hey!
My brother is thinking of buying a projector. One that projects 720p and downsamples from 1080p. What would the quality like? How crisp would it be?
At the moment he has an LED 3D TV (40 inch) but it went busted about 2 months after the warranty went out. So we are just considering all our options really and thought a projector might be an option. We dont want 3D, it just happened to be on the LED TV we last bought. He would be using it for a PC monitor like he did his last one.
Any ideas?
Our budget is like £440
Are you asking for a projector that downsamples? What
No, he is stating that his brother has found one that does. He is asking if anyone has any experience with using projectors as a replacement for a TV. Personally, I'd just just get another TV. I don't think projectors are that great of quality compared.
Projectors are good if you want a relatively inexpensive 70+ inch screen. However, they are really only useful if its pitch black dark in the room. Plus they are insanely annoying to set up and do require maintenance. The bulbs aren't exactly cheap, aren't covered by warranty unless it dies prematurely, and only last a couple thousand hours so you have to be mindful of how long its on.
I wouldn't use one for a computer monitor though, mainly because of the limited bulb lifetime I mentioned and the fact that the room must be dark. Plus 720p is awfully low res. Downscaling from 1080p is just going to make everything smaller and a little grainier. I would just find another TV because like I mentioned, projectors are only good when you need a large screen but the money isn't there for a 70+ inch LCD.
