...bringing the total cost to 300$ more than the Rift+Touch
...bringing the total cost to 300$ more than the Rift+Touch
Yeah and the quality difference is pretty vast. Nothing beats the Vive's tracking currently.

It's certainly a pretty tall order to expect people to pay $800+ for VR when there's cheaper options. I just wish the cheaper options were better. VR is getting tainted by shit like PSVR

I don't notice it.

VR is getting tainted by shit like PSVR
the first generation was never destined for extreme adoption; it's making the splash they wanted it to and great games are being released that will make the next hardware generation immediately desirable for new buyers with vive financing options, rift price cuts, and the ever-decreasing cost for vr-capable PCs (now $500 for a whole PC instead of just the GPU), gen 2 headsets will be very attractive
I do wonder though since this IS a secondary attachment, what happens when gen2 comes around, regardless of changes will gen2 have the same attachment points? or will we toss these into the dusty basements of ours and forget about them until 8 years later we shift through our junk and finally realize that "haha wow I bought this"
I do wonder though since this IS a secondary attachment, what happens when gen2 comes around, regardless of changes will gen2 have the same attachment points?
gen 2 Vive will probably have a strap like this built in to begin with the default/only rigid Rift strap lets you pop out the over-ear earphones and plug in in-ear earphones, and I'd be surprised to not see that be a standard
I'm not understanding what difference you're saying here it sounds like what I said
what I mean is, if they go with just floppy straps in gen2, then this technically would still have a use over the gen2 straps, as it has a nice sturdy and rigid structure, etc. it WOULD be more desirable to put it on 'like a baseball cap' after all, rather than like a floppy flimsy strap-on for your head
...bringing the total cost to 300$ more than the Rift+Touch
I mean they only announced the price drop today, give HTC time to adjust too.
I mean they only announced the price drop today, give HTC time to adjust too.
HTC already announced their desire to not cut their price, after the Rift price cut news
HTC already announced their desire to not cut their price, after the Rift price cut news
If you asked Oculus last week if there was going to be a price drop, then they would (probably) have said they weren't going to do it. It is a business, give them a little time to get things in order to respond to the changed market and we'll see then. You can't just announce a price cut out of the blue in HTC's case without first making sure it is the right thing to do for your product. It is good for the Rift ecosystem though. This, along with the slight minimum hardware requirement decrease, things are looking good for entering the VR market on PC.

Instead, they volunteered a "no".
All I want out of a VR headset is something for sim games. I don't want room tracking or amazing audio, just let me put my headphones on over the headset. I don't want to use crazy motion controllers. I just want head tracking and stereoscopic 3D. Wish there was a cheaper option that just focused on head tracking and display.
Yeah and the quality difference is pretty vast. Nothing beats the Vive's tracking currently.
lighthouse scales better, but that only matters if you're going to like, set up in a warehouse or something the two rift cameras track the 8 x 7 foot space in my room just fine, and even if I was going to have a larger space and needed more coverage, a third camera would still be cheaper than a Vive for the same level of tracking quality. meanwhile, the Rift has better ergonomics, built in headphones, and gesture control. It was a better value proposition even at $800, but at $600? It's an insane deal.

Cheap stuff for sims would be pretty great. Fancy haptic feedback controller with pedals, Cheap headset, all set.

I have to disagree with you here, the motion controllers are nearly as important as the headset itself.

You'd be surprised how good the earphones are, but you can detach them and use your own.
