The hackers claim they were able to obtain the information because the company, Stratfor, did not encrypt it.

I just can't fathom how security companies, let alone /anyone/ that keeps sensitive data backed up digitally doesn't encrypt it.

Its nice that they gave it all to charity, but they are still assholes for doing what they did. Stealing peoples money isn't nice.
