• Overly high CPU temps?
    2 replies, posted
My friend has just built his first computer the other day and discovered that his CPU is running 75+ C under load and idling in the 40's. The thing is we cannot figure out is why in the hell it's running so hot, he's using a Cooler Master Hyper RR-H101-22FK-RI, NZXT Gamma Case, Core 2 duo E6550 @ 2.33. Another notable thing he did that could very well be the problem is that he mixed the no-name thermal paste that came with the cooler and some Rosewill RCX-TC001. We've checked the cooler to make sure it's contacting the CPU right and his case has decent airflow although he could use another case fan. I know that a C2D at 2.33Ghz should not be at these temps, my i5 runs cooler than it even at full load. So I'm totally lost on this and any help anyone could provide would be epic. Also apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forums. The paste is the problem..
Never. Mix. TIM. Clean it off and put fresh paste on. I recommend MX-4 but do some simple searches for some well regarded pastes. Also does he have some good case venting? I see some good mounts for fans on that case, but don't see many fans that come with it.
