• Buying a new computer

Today's my 18th birthday, and I have $1000 us dollars to spend on whatever the hell I want, and I want a new computer. I've never built my own computer before, so I'm leaning towards a pre-built, but if someone can find me parts, and tell me if I'm able to bring the parts after I receive them to a store for someone else to build for me, that would be really helpful. --I'm looking for a powerful gaming computer, not sure about the operating system yet but XP or 7 are probably good. --I'm going to need a new monitor, but I can look for that myself, unless there's a good deal someone can find on a good one, so add in a monitor if you find something. --I'd like a case and motherboard that are easily upgradeable, so I can add to it later instead of having to buy a whole new setup, so customization is a big plus. --I think something 500GB or over would be a good hard drive size, seeing as I take a lot of photos, and games are only getting bigger as they get better. --I'm probably just going to stick with headphones, so speakers don't matter to me at all, seeing as I'll just be looking for a good gaming headset. Add one you know of that's good if you find one, though, I would appreciate it. --The case will be pretty debatable, so just post some good ones and I'll choose one eventually. --I'd also like to mention I'm leaning more towards Intel products. Specifically i5 because I'm more of a gamer. If that's too much trouble, or more expensive, then I'll take what you can give me. If there's something from AMD that's as good, or better, than an Intel, but cheaper, that would be awesome  As I mentioned, I live in the US, and I'd like to stay a little below what I have, so my budget will be $850, give or take. If you need any more specific information, just ask. Thanks to everyone that posts! :buddy:

It's really not that difficult.
--I'm looking for a powerful gaming computer, not sure about the operating system yet but XP or 7 are probably good.
You should be going with 7, but there's nothing wrong with Vista.
--I think something 500GB or over would be a good hard drive size, seeing as I take a lot of photos, and games are only getting bigger as they get better.
A 1TB HDD is usually standard with a budget of over $600.
Is the monitor going to be included in the $850? Or are you using the remainder of your money to buy one? [editline]04:00PM[/editline] Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136317 Optical Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131603 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102864 Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236067 Total: $873.92 That will do much better than any pre-built you get for the money. [editline]04:00PM[/editline] And the monitor has built-in speakers. So no need for your headphones.
If OP wants to CF later on: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398&cm_re=asus_evo-_-13-131-398-_-Product this is a great mobo and is compatible with ghostofme's build.

I forgot to mention I'm leaning towards Intel and Nvidia :gonk: I should add that to my post before anyone else posts builds :eng99:
Don't lean towards nvidia right now, 5870 is highest single gpu solution right now. 5970 if you had extra 200 Lean to intel's i5 if you're doing gaming, i7 if 3d modeling and encoding. amd if you want price:performance and don't need a shitload of power but still want to max most games.
Fuck. I forgot to mention I'm leaning towards Intel and Nvidia :gonk: I should add that to my post before anyone else posts builds :eng99:
The best thing for you to do is to not lean towards any brand. One sec, I'll make an i5 build.
Well I just found out I can't buy off an online store, so I'm going to Microcenter to pick out the parts and have them build it. I'm probably going to write down the parts ghostofme posted and get those depending on the price there, but keep posting some builds, I'm not going just yet :buddy:

This Microcenter place is probably going to have jacked up the prices. Why can't you buy online? [editline]05:48PM[/editline] Keep all the parts in the build I posted before but replace the following. CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186177 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 The new total is $868.88
