Can you set linux (any distro) to be able to be logged on to like windows where you can log onto a server, that way you can log onto your account from any computer on the network. Like in schools and workplaces?
No idea. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. :/ (User was banned for this post ("If you cant help, dont post." - birkett))
You can. I don't remember the exact process to do it though.
Is possible, but kinda complicated. Not something for a Linux rookie.
An authentication system like Active Directory? If yes. It's possible.
Yeah, I've always wondered this too
SSH fools.
You want LDAP. At least thats what we use at Work, user data is stored on unified server, and then LDAP can be applied to any number of systems. Might be wrong though.

If you think Active Directory is hard (which is a doddle tbh), LDAP will be a nightmare. Give it a go though, you never know how easy or hard something is without trying it first.
SSH and Remote X
Ubermensch is sadly right, LDAP is only really for if you're planning to start running a company of like... 20 or more people. But you didn't really elaborate on your situation. If it's for a whole school LDAP will take time and effort, but it's the only surefire way to do it properly.

I think he means so that you have that "logon to domain" thingy, and you have for example your own My Documents folder on the server, synced with the one on the client [editline]09:10PM[/editline] Any links to tutorials anyone?
