that is kind of freaky
In some areas, wifi access points can be used to position yourself on a map. Never worked for me, though I doubt the service they use has any data on my small Canadian town.

He said he isn't using the school Wifi.
Anyways my 2gen iPod touch can locate my little military base in the middle of Ontario through my Wifi.
roqyBT with a Bluetooth receiver turns your iPod touch into a GPS.
Also, google was able to track my house down to a one meter error via Opera.
skyhook. you don't even have to be connected to wifi for it, there just has to be one near by, because most people don't know their routers can do this and thus don't disable it.

it's like the exact same thing as A-GPS triangulation, where instead of using an actual GPS chip, a cell phone will use nearby antennas and create a small* radius of where you could be. many cell phones actually use both, A-GPS when no GPS satellites can be found.
* = gigantic
the touch, however, does not.
then again, apple can find it to a tee if they need to, say it gets stolen and you have "Find My iPhone" installed. so maybe it does in fact have the hardware for that, but only uses it when it really needs to.
A-GPS is like taking a shot in the dark and hoping you hit the pin.
